Windows 10: Microsoft what did you do that break display sleep anything newer than version 1809?

Whatever i update to, 1909, 2004, the problem arises.

I even did clean install of 2004 TWICE always from a fresh iso, and even tried the latest insider edition, to no avail it broke.


Problem 1:

USB connected game controller and M-audio synthesizer.

Display does not sleep on timeout.

Try manually -physically press the power button on monitor - does not return picture; stays off



Problem 2


Sleep mode

Does not return screen from sleep.


-On a 2004 clean install i managed to return the screen to on when controller and synth was unplugged, when only KB and Mouse was connected.

That passed after about the third time and it broke again, forever.


So the only solution was to come back to a version not much longer supported version 1809 of windows 10. It handles the screen beautifully.



Various Display driver versions were tested 20.3.1, 20.4.2, 20.5.1, 20.7.2

Display will not sleep.

Thank you for posting your query in Microsoft Community. I understand the inconvenience caused to you and will help you solve the issue.

I suggest you to follow the steps provided below and check if it helps.

• Click on Start>Settings>System.
• In the left navigation pane, click on Power & sleep.
• In the right pane, select the time limit for the system to go to sleep from the drop down list.
