  1. USB ports stopped working

Three of the four USB ports on my Intel nuc8i3bek stopped working reliably, all of a sudden. They will occasionally all work for a couple of minutes (at the same time), then go on and off about once per second for a couple minutes, then stop working again.

I have tried, to no avail:
    -restart computer
-look at device manager for anything unusual (no)
-uninstall USB controller from device manager and restart computer
-disable selective suspend setting in advanced power options and restart computer
    -uninstall recent Windows updates
    -reinstall recent Windows updates
-check BIOS for anything unusual (no)

I finally decided to do a clean installation from a bootable Windows 10 installation thumbdrive, assuming it was an operating system problem, but the thumbdrive was not recognized on my first attempt, then it was on the second, but installation was halted after a few minutes with an error.

The only unusual thing that happened before the usb port problem, is that I installed the cumulative updates KB4565627 and KB4565503 a couple of hours before this started happening. During those couple of hours, I was using the computer with an external hdd connected with no problems.

So the fact that I was not able to boot from and/or install WIndows 10 from a bootable flash drive means that the problem is purely at the hardware level? Or could the WIndows updates have messed up something at such a deep level to cause this? I bought the PC used used off Amazon a month ago from a 3rd party seller with good customer feedback, and the 30-day warranty expired two days ago. I have messaged them, asking for a courtesy replacement, but it would be great if I can get this working properly on my own.

    Thanks for any suggestions.

    :)

    USB 2.0 Ports Stopped working

    Hello,

I recently noticed my USB 2.0 ports have stopped working, but my USB 3.0 port is functioning perfectly.

    Steps i have tried:

    - Restarting

    - Searching for device changes in Device manager

    - running troubleshooter

all these suggested fixes didn't remedy the issue, its a bit of an inconvenience that i only have one functioning USB port

    Thanks

    USB ports stopped working

    USB ports

    Hi Frank,

Inserting and removing a USB device repeatedly may cause the USB port to stop responding. When the port is in this state, it no longer recognizes any USB device, and the USB device will not work.

Here are few things that you can do to resolve the issue:

Use Device Manager to scan for hardware changes. After your computer scans for hardware changes, it might recognize the USB device that is connected to the USB port so that you can use the device.

To scan for hardware changes, follow these steps:

    • Click Start, and then click Run.

Note If you are running Windows Vista, click Start, and then use the Start Search box.
    • Type devmgmt.msc, and then click OK. Device Manager opens.
    • In Device Manager, click your computer so that it is highlighted.
    • Click Action, and then click Scan for hardware changes.
    • Check the USB device to see whether it is working.

Turn off Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power.

    • In the Device Manager dialog box, expand Universal Serial Bus controllers, right-click USB Root Hub, and then click Properties.
    • In the USB Root Hub Properties dialog box, click the Power Management tab. Uncheck the
Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power
      box.

Let us know how it goes after performing the suggested troubleshooting steps.
