Windows 10: Control Panel vs Settings in Win10

Hello and Good Day,


Dear Microsoft,


For 30 years, Control Panel has been the way to adjust configurations within the Windows operating system. Now, with Windows 10, you are moving our cheese again. I do not understand the reason for this change. Some of us are IT professionals and we enjoy the ability to find and change configurations quickly and easily. Control Panel, though outdated in its appearance, checked those boxes for us. I do not find Settings to be helpful at all. In fact, I despise Settings so much, I would rather drive rusted nails through my kneecaps than try to extract any meaningful information from it. Unfortunately, it seems that width and breadth of Windows users have marched down to Seattle and held candlelight vigils to have Control Panel removed in favor of Settings. Bravo to you for listening to the hundreds of millions of Windows users who vehemently derided Control Panel day-and-night for these long 30 years. Thank you for changing, yet again, where we lowly users go to find information about our operating system. Now, where did I save my Mint download again?


PS Just in case you were curious about whether it is better to provide users with a consistent experience or paradigm for using your product or better to make your product unrecognizable from year to year, go with the latter. It's way easier to rewrite code every year than it is to maintain it. Feel free to disregard my thoughts on this matter for I am but a humble user and administrator of Microsoft Windows since it was DOS.


Snark level set to 0: Seriously, though. Can't you just make Control Panel the new Settings? Make the Settings icon call the Control Panel and make that default to the icon view instead of the genre view which is horrible. Even better, give us admins a Windows Feature that is disabled by default that we can enable and keep control panel? There are so many different ways to accomplish the "minimalistic", origami design that is so popular right now while leaving our years of training and muscle-memory valid. I just don't need anything slowing me down during my day. These changes seem unnecessary and superficial. I welcome your feedback.

I prefer control panel. I found it after digging around and sent a shortcut to start.

Questions:

1. I know MS is looking to get rid of control panel in favor of settings. However, is it possible to add control panel to the start right click list?

2. Is there a way to change settings display so it lists the traditional icons?

one day the control panel will be completely gone.


but microsoft has to take baby steps to avoid problems.

and other companys will have to convert their control panel files to work with the settings app.

You can add Control panel back to the list - see
Show Control Panel or Settings on Win+X Menu in Windows 10 - TenForums

After you have done this, search TenForums for Start menu and you will find guides ["tutorials"] for many customisations that you can do to the Start menu. You will not be able to do what you want but some of the others might make your life a bit
easier.
