This PC can't be upgraded to Windows 10 - Windows Update & Microsoft Store not working...

Hi! I'm trying to help my brother fix a computer that has a long list of errors, bluescreens, corrupted Windows installations, and more. Thankfully, the PC is now recovered to an at least usable state, but there is one large problem remaining that is related to the update of the computer.

This is not my computer, but I have tried to troubleshoot and have eventually gotten to a dead end. The main problem is that Windows Update throws an error when trying to update the PC. The computer doesn't have the latest version of Windows, it's on Windows 1903 build 19002.1, so an update should be available. The main problem goes deeper than that though because I think this has to do with something related to that the computer has been enrolled in Windows Insider before. Here is what I have done:

    • Unenrolled Windows Insider by toggling the "Stop receiving preview builds when a next stable version is released"-button.
    • Checked if the computer Lenovo V110-15IKB has support for the May update 2004 is the number if I remember correctly, and it does, according to an official Lenovo Support article: https://support.lenovo.com/se/en/solutions/ht510448
    • Downloaded the Windows 10 Update Assistant - It throws the error "Your PC settings aren't supported yet on this version of Windows 10", even though Lenovo claims that it has the support
    • Tried to check what "Group Policy Settings" that has been applied to the system since Windows Update still says "Some settings are managed by your organization" even though the computer shouldn't be registered for Windows Insider at all.

It's obvious that it's the Windows Insider that's blocking something here, I'm just wondering how on earth I can get rid of it. Because, as I said earlier, the PC can no longer search for updates via Windows Update, it just displays "Error" and yes, I'm connected to the internet. Apparently, the computer is set up and logged in to one Windows account, which has automatically applied child restrictions not sure if those affects anything here, BUT, the Windows Insider previews come from another account that he only uses for Windows Insider. As soon as I close the settings app, reopen it, and return to the Insider tab, it displays his regular Microsoft account with the option to enroll in the program. Has something conflicted here, perhaps?

So, what additional steps can I take to troubleshoot and fix the issue? What additional details do you need, if any?

Microsoft Store also doesn't work - no apps can be downloaded, it just says that something is wrong.

I have a couple of screenshots below:

Group policies set on the device, probably by Insider especially the last one is alarming

The Windows Update screen when on the account not signed up for Insider. It now says that the device is set up to get preview builds, even though I have tried to unenroll it. This goes away if I click the link to the Insider settings, select his Microsoft account used for Windows Insider, and return back to the screen.

    :)

Microsoft to make Windows 10 updates mandatory

Well, at the moment at least, you can choose to defer upgrades. Under Settings > Windows Updates > Advanced options you need to check the box labeled "Defer upgrades". What does that do? Good question. The answer I've found might illuminate it to a degree.

I hear this only applies to Pro and Enterprise editions. But I can't verify that.

Windows 10 upgrade problem, no input accepted

I really hate having to come here and ask for help, but I really am stumped. It hurts my geek pride. I have a PC with fairly modern hardware in it. It has a p8p67 pro in it. I have tried upgrading windows 10 on it twice now. Both times I have had the same result.

After windows finishes upgrading it goes to the log in/set up screen. I can't do anything. No keyboard or mouse input is accepted.

I will list some, or hopefully all, of the troubleshooting steps I have tried:
    • Move keyboard and mouse to different USB ports.
    • Try different keyboard or mouse.
    • Restart computer, repeatedly.
    • Google for related issues.
    • Update Bios, because why not.
    • Create boot media and revert to windows 7.
The windows 10 system restore boot media works fine with keyboard and mouse. All USB ports work in windows 7. I don't know what is wrong. I suspect that windows 10 is lacking a driver of some sort, but since the computer accepts no input I have no way of checking for which driver let alone installing it.

Please help me figure this out. If I have to revert back to windows 7 again, I am not going to get it upgraded to windows 10. Thank you in advanced.

Microsoft to push automatic Windows 10 upgrades in 2016

"Microsoft has announced that Windows 10 will be automatically rolled out next year to all users of its older operating systems who have selected to receive updates.

Until now, users of Windows 7 and 8 have needed to register to upgrade to Windows 10. But that's about to change: soon the OS will be listed as an 'Optional Update' and -- from 2016 -- a 'recommended' update that will automatically install itself, if users have opted to receive updates in that way.*Shadedshun :shadedshu:

You can opt out of automatic updates to avoid this, but Microsoftsays that "we strongly discourage this in today’s connected world because of the constant risk of internet threats". You can also change your Windows Update settings to install critical updates but not recommended ones. Although it's still going to be possible to avoid installation, Microsoft seems quite determined for everyone to be using Windows 10 in near future.

The roll-out of reserved updates was initially staggered but, according to Microsoft, now Windows "will automatically kick off the upgrade process once you have made a reservation".

As an intermediate stage, Microsoft says that it will "soon" publish Windows 10 as an optional update, not installed by default, but accessible to all users.
