Unable to connect computer and printer to internet at the same time

    Hi,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

I understand that you are unable to connect internet and wireless printer at the same time.

For better clarity, please let us know:

    • Are you able to connect the printer when any one of the computers are not connected to the network?
    • What is the version of Windows you are using? To check type: winver in the search bar on the Taskbar and hit Enter.
    • What is the make and model of the printer?
    • Are you getting any error messages when you connect the printer?

There could be a limitation of number of devices that can be connected to the router at any given point. You may want to check the limitations before proceeding.

However, I would suggest you to try running the Network Troubleshooter and check if that helps. Refer the steps mentioned below:

    1. Press Windows Logo key + I, to open
      Settings.
    2. Click on Update & Security and select
      Troubleshoot on the left pane.
    3. Scroll down and look for Network Troubleshooter on the right pane.
    4. Click on it and select Run the troubleshooter.
    5. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the process.

    For more information, see
Fix network connection issues in Windows
    .

I would also suggest you to refer the steps mentioned in the article

Let us know how it goes.

Creating two different printer drivers on the same printer?

sinfulangle: reworking a piece of my earlier post: ...what I'm suggesting is that "you lie" [*] to at least each standard users' computer as to what that one single printer is on the network:
Managers use X printer for color printing,
standard users use the same X printer for only black and white printing.
The only way to "split that one X printer into color and into blackNwhite" is to have that one X printer functioning:
    -- as "two printers"
-- I think within "Add Printer," installing printer drivers:
-- one set of drivers "Zumba 2000AColor" [*] on the managers' PCs -- aimed at that one single X printer
-- the other set of drivers "Zumba 1000AB&W" [*] on the standard users' PCs -- aimed at that one single X printer
One physical printer, available to all, Zumba 2000A color icon on managers' PCs,
That same one physical printer, available to all, Zumba 1000A B&W icon on standard users' PCs.

for sinfulangle: IF the above can be done, do it, test it. Make sure each computer with its own set of drivers actually prints to that one single printer; managers=color, std users=B&W.
"To lie" may not work at all!! If such tactics will not work on networks, so be it.
If the above cannot be done, well, In Search Of [Finding Nimoy] continues!

Using two printers on same computer.

Same printer connected via USB or WiFi recognized as two different printers

The underlying problem is that Windows considers the port and the driver (the printer) as two separate entities.

That means that you can have multiple printers attached to the same port. This is used if you want the same printer with 2 different settings, e.g. one colour, the other black/white. Just install the printer twice, using the same port, and change default settings as needed.

Unfortunately, every instance of a printer can only be connected to a single port. Hence, using 2 ports means you will have 2 different printers.

As has been suggested in comments, the simplest solution is to use only one port to connect to the printer. If WiFi is reliable for you, then use that all the time - and enjoy the benefits of WiFi. If you have connection issues, then stick to USB only.
