    How to kill Cortana / Edge?


    This has been asked previously. However, no real answer has been provided - how do you stop Cortana eating ram and processing cycles?

    Failing that, how do I stonewall Cortana so she's not telling her creators everything about me? I realise I'm not the best at hiding my breadcrumbs anyway, but I don't need to be. It's the principle at stake here.


    I quite like the idea of Cortana's utility functionality, but I despise the transmission of private data without need. There is significant utility that could be utilised without Cortana needing to know everything about me. However, as this is not an option, I wish to remove Cortana in her entirety from my hardware - which I still own, last I checked.


    While we're on the topic, how do I get rid of Microsoft Edge? It was enforced as a PUP Potentially Unwanted Program with an update. I do not need, want, or have the resources to spare for another internet browser which I will not use.


    Internet explorer was a perfectly fine system utility built-in, which could be removed if I so chose.


    I'm system admin - I own my hardware. As such I am able to decide what happens on my hardware.


    Linux is still an option if there is not a viable solution. I can learn to be a code monkey. It seems anyone in IT who cares about their privacy has already moved to Linux.


    Please advise, Microsoft. Your reputation is at stake here.

    How DID I kill Cortana?

    There are 2 PCs - my Old PC and my New PC. Both are running Windows 10 v1809.
    Old PC is running Home Edition, New PC is running Pro Edition

    Somehow, I was able to completely remove Cortana from my Search App on Old PC. But I can't for the life of me remember how I did that. I want to do the same on New PC.

    Before we jump to conclusions, it was not the Registry Edit Method of finding and changing AllowCortana value to 0. That has NOT been done on Old PC. I must have done something else.
    Looking for suggestions.

    On Old PC, when you look into Settings - No Cortana:

    None of the method listed here works.

    This effectively killed Cortana process, but disabled my start menu along with it.
