Windows 10: ucrtbase.dll error/explorer crashing on a fresh windows install

Built a new pc, got Windows installed. Been viewing 360 videos and VLC was occasionally stuttering. Suddenly it stopped, but now when I load Explorer (for files and such) it crashes and the screen flashes black for a second. I’ve tried all the fixes suggested related to the explorer and to the ucrtbase.dll file that’s apparently causing the issues. GPU driver is the latest, windows10 is fully updated, nothing else is apparently reporting issues. I just can’t browse files without it killing itself.

Any ideas are appreciated before I start uninstalling everything one at a time (despite everything installed on this pc being the same as my old pc that didn’t have issues)

Windows explorer crashing

Hi,

I am having the same problem as the OP in this thread.
Windows Explorer crashes whenever I open my external HDD or thumb drive in explorer..

I have tried the fixes listed in the above thread and I am getting the same error message as 'ktadie' (post 16). I think this is because I am running Windows 7 Professional. Windows explorer crashes when I open my 'Films' folder on my brand new 2tb external HDD. I have about 300 .avi files in this folder and some of the .avi files are several years old.

In short I believe I need the same fix given by 'Wile E' (post 7) but updated for Windows 7 Professional.

Fresh instalation, windows explorer crashes on Desktop and Folders


Same problem on my end. Exactly the same error codes.

I've been trawling various forums for a while now and haven't found a solution. However, signing into a new account on the same PC does get rid of the issue, this is a massive pain however, and I bet the crashing would return given enough time.

So yeah. My theory is it has something to do with user settings. Maybe its a specific program, but if your windows is completely clean then probably not. Here's a list of what I have installed anyway just for reference.
