  1. Unable to fix DPC_WATCHDOG_VIOLATION

    Hello,

Around a month ago my computer suddenly started crashing repeatedly with a DPC_WATCHDOG_VIOLATION, my computer will seemingly lose internet connection then in around 5-10 seconds the mouse will start to skip, then eventually freeze altogether, taking around 30 seconds from that point to actually crash. After looking into it I did all of the general fixes with no luck:

Changing/Updating the SATA AHCI controller: Every one of them mentioned an iaStorA.sys driver, which none of my IDE controllers have so no luck there.

Updating the SSD firmware, the SSD firmware was already up to date so far as the company's program was concerned.

Running CHK DSK on my drives, no issue was found on my D drive which is a standard HDD, however I was unable to run a chk dsk command on the c drive while using /f, and the scheduled scan on boot was never able to got through because it said it was in use, however a normal chk dsk found no issues.

Running sfc /scannow revealed no errors either.

Using Event viewer to try and pinpoint the issue was a bit difficult and an issue in itself. Event viewer's logs on startup are always a bit off, I.E. saying the shutdown at 8:32 was unexpected when the crash actually occurred at 8:59. At one point I had managed to get event viewer opened as the mouse was skipping and say there were several logs there, the computer crashed before I was able to click any of them and they were all gone from event viewer when the computer finished rebooting.

As for physical changes I tried swapping out the SATA cables to both drives, which seemed to work for about a day, and very well could have just been dumb luck, and recently I replaced my D drive with an actual internal drive which had worked for about two days, but again, dumb luck. At this point I am lost as to what I can do and would appreciate any suggestions. Thank you.

    :)

    DPC_WATCHDOG_VIOLATION

    Hi,

It is possible that the error DPC_WATCHDOG_VIOLATION may occur if the iastor.sys driver is incompatible with Windows 10. To isolate your issue, we'd like to gather more information:

    • Have you made any recent changes before this issue occurred?
    • What troubleshooting steps have you done so far?

Any response will be highly appreciated.

  3. Blue screen: DPC_WATCHDOG_VIOLATION

After a recent updating, my machine has blue screen every 5 - 10 minutes.

    The error code is DPC_WATCHDOG_VIOLATION

I saw another post here which suggest to use "iastor.sys". But I don't have that in the driver list. Mine is storahci.sys.

    Please advise! Thanks,

    DPC_WATCHDOG_VIOLATION

    Hi Mattie,

The DPC_WATCHDOG_VIOLATION blue screen error can be caused by a variety of hardware, firmware, driver, or software issues. Now, you mentioned that you already changed the IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers to standard. Did you update the driver as well? And also,
are you getting the same blue screen error when you play other games? Or is it only occurring when you play a particular game?

For the mean time, if you haven't tried any further troubleshooting steps, we suggest that you perform the suggested steps from this article:

Let us know how this turns out for you.
