Windows 10: Blank screen with time and date only on my Dell Inspiron 15z

Hope you can help...I haven't used my laptop in days, and went to charge it knowing battery was drained. Sure enough when I opened it , and now it's fully charged, I have a dark screen, the time and date are shown at the bottom, and a voice speaks to me...so I did an alt, control and delete same time and it says something like locked keyboard, enter password edit..with a space for the password but nothing happens....I did alt, and arrows in different directions, and nothing...It's like my keyboard is locked, and when i first opened it up I had the keyboard on the screen, somehow I managed to close it and I don't see that anywhere...but not getting anything....please help

However it does appear Dell is not supporting the 15z laptop for Windows 10 which is incredibly frustrating as it only a few years old.

To reduce the video driver issues as mentioned above I found that maxing the times until the screen turns off/sleep mode.

Still happens once in a while but seems slightly happier.

 

Win 10 blank screen

Win 10 downloaded & converted cleanly. It worked cleanly for 2 days on a Dell laptop - Inspiron 15z (5523, Late 2012). Decided to do a clean install to clear out residual history stuff. Made backup copies of my files. Initiated the creation of the
recovery/restore USB. "When it finished I clicked on file explorer and the screen went blank. Only the cursor remained. Nothing would change the screen but the cursor would respond properly.

Powered off and powered on and got to the sign on page. Enter password and got welcome screen with circling dots. When this process turned control over to desktop the screen goes blank but shows cursor. Tried key combinations (Fn, windows, etc,) and only
the CTL-ALT-Del combo worked which brought up task mgr. All systems were go according to Task mgr. Could start and stop processes. Also enable and disable them. Trying to see the storage location or other function gave me an "not found" error msg.
Could use the network and power buttons properly in task mgr. So the hardware was working and the drivers too. Windows 10 is running but does not display on the screen. Win 10 is running in idle mode.

Tried to use alternate boot up which gives the windows logo and then goes to the blank screen with cursor. Hardware diagnostics are fine and pass the tests. The majority of advice in the "community" require visual access to recovery steps or restore steps.
How to get that done?

Suggestions?

 

Inspiron 15z 5523 nVidia graphics card missing??

I assume you never got his issue with your NVIDIA graphics card resolved with Windows 10?

From the research I've done, it appears that Dell has removed the Inspiron 15z 5523 from the list of systems tested for compatibility with Windows 10, as well as indicate that they don't plan to provide drivers for Windows 10 for this model.

This may have been the result of some issues with BIOS corruption that occurred starting back in August 2015, which though most of those posting in a thread at Dell apparently managed to fix this by reverting to previous BIOS versions or otherwise updating
the BIOS, most also returned to Windows 8.1 to avoid continued problems.

Since the NVIDIA device in the 15z laptop is integrated in a different way than a standalone card, my understanding is that the NVIDIA supplied drivers won't work for this reason. Unless one of the other Dell laptops contained exactly the same design as
the 15z, I doubt any of these would work either.

So as Dell indicates on their driver download page for the 15z, the lack of driver support for Windows 10 may result in certain features of the laptop not functioning. I suspect that this NVIDIA device is one of those features and so you'd have the choice
of remaining on Windows 10 without the use of the NVIDIA graphics controller or returning to Windows 8.x to regain full use of the hardware.

Please let me know if I'm wrong and you've managed to get this working somehow. I'm just trying to decide whether the risk of bricking the BIOS and potential loss of the NVIDIA graphics controller and who knows what other functionality is really worth attempting
the upgrade to Windows 10.
