Windows 10: Windows 10 System and Reserved Storage

Within the last couple months I got a new PC and it is and has been running really well... with one problem. Its storage has recently begun filling up really quickly and practically overnight the system and reserved storage went up around 100 GB. I should specify that I have the Windows 10 OS installed on an SSD with all other games and applications installed on my HDD. My SSD is fine, but my HDD now has 216 GB of system and reserved storage on it. I am currently defragmenting the drive to see if that could be the issue but I am unsure that it will work. I really don't think that there should be 216 GB of system and reserved storage on a drive that doesn't even have windows on it, so does anyone know of a way that I can fix this?

are you sure that the reserved storage feature is enabled?

is this a new machine? or have you clean installed windows 10 1003 or later?

check in settings -> system -> storage

click on show more categories

click on system & reserved

is reserved storage in the list?

check settings -> system -> about

under windows specifications

what version is installed?

that is system reserved, the disk space taken by windows and is not the reserved storage feature.

although that does seem more than a little high, i suggest you run a clean up including system files

click start, type disk clean-up

select c: drive and click ok

click the clean up system files button

select c: drive and click ok

i would suggest selecting everything but you may want to check through the list

click OK

your version is also over a year old, i would suggest upgrading to 1909

Recovery Partition vs System Reserved Partition

Thanks for all the info guys.

Both original & target SSD's are listed as MBR as opposed to UEFI. I may have created a partition unknowingly in getting the original/new unformatted drive recognized, but I don't recall taking any steps that Windows did not step me through.

Not that an upgrade to WIN 10 Pro is contemplated, but I suspect that having no System Reserved partition will not allow that to happen, after seeing how the original WIN 10 upgrade created a problem for some WIN 7 users that had a smaller 100mb vs 500mb System Reserved partition.
