I want to do something, but I don't know how and I suspect that it isn't possible.

Using cmd in Windows 10, I know how to create a directory symbolic link using mklink /d. I also know how to create a directory junction using mklink /j.

For example, imagine that I have a directory c:\originalDirectory and I create a link at c:\newDirectory.

My question is about the files (and folders) that live inside a linked/junctioned directory. When I delete c:\newDirectory\exampleFile.jpg, the original file is also deleted (c:\originalDirectory\exampleFile.jpg). Of course, the link itself c:\newDirectory is not removed. I have confirmed that both the directory symbolic link and the directory junction work this way.

Is there some form of link or file synchronization mechanism in Windows wherein if I delete c:\newDirectory\exampleFile.jpg, the original file at c:\originalDirectory\exampleFile.jpg is preserved? Of course I would also want to preserve the link itself at c:\newDirectory.

There are A LOT of files in c:\originalDirectory, so doing a mklink such as c:\newDirectory\linkToExampleFile.jpg for each file doesn't seem like a great option.

Is it possible to do what I want? I've heard of Microsoft SyncToy, but I'm not sure if that would work...

    Directory Size Utility

First of all nice utility, Mindweaver!
Second of all, it's so nice to see that this section ain't dead.

    I have a few questions/suggestions, maybe you'd want to see ...
    • maybe you rename Get Folder button caption to something more intuitive? Add Folder, Get Folder Size, Check Folder Size or something like that?
    • Could you add subfolder files to the right pane? (it can be a tickbox with include sub dirs)
    • maybe you also add export list to excel?
    • there's delete file button maybe you add delete folder button too?
    • and finally maybe you can add UP button for directories?

    MKLINK not recognized

I want to use MKLINK (in Powershell) to sync a folder to OneDrive.

There are many articles about using this is Windows 10.

But I get this message from Powershell:

mklink : The term 'mklink' is not recognized as the name of a cmdlet, function, script file, or operable program.

Check the spelling of the name, or if a path was included, verify that the path is correct and try again.

How do I get access to MKLINK?
