    Can't make an adult administrator

Ok, I've about had it w10. I have enjoyed since it came out, until today. I am trying to add a user to my pc. Four times today, I made an email account, then created the user account, as an adult admin acct. Then when I had accepted the invitation, I would go back to settings, and the account did not exist any more, so I redid everything, resent the invitation, and went back to the outlook.com, and it said that email did not exist, but wouldn't let me create another account with that same address. But that over with, just wanted you to know what kind of day I've had trying to do this.

So I created another email, went back to settings, created another account using the newest email address, clicking on adult and admin. Finally that worked, sent the invitation, went back to outlook.com, signed in, clicked the invitation email, success. So I go back to settings, and the account is now showing child administrator. That's not what I want. Every time I create an account it becomes a child account. As a child admin acct. I can not do anything that requires administrator privilege. I guess I better explain all of this. I am giving the pc to my son, so I am setting him an account, leaving my account on it. As he won't use it that much, and I'm going to use it in a network situation as extra storage, is it only has about 200 gig, on a terabyte hard drive. So when I try to do some things on his account that requires admin priv it ask for my pin number. Then I tried to turn off UAC, and some other things, and the Apply, change or whatever buttons are greyed out, I'm not able to do anything that requires admn priv, on his account, I have to log out sign into my account, sign back out, and sign back into his account. So how do I fix this? If you need any other information just let me know, it will probably be tomorrow before I can get back. But, I'll do the best I can.

    Thank You

    :)

  2. Can't make changes as myself, or Administrator

    Hi Christine,

Additional information will help us to identify the cause of this issue. Kindly answer the following questions:

    • How many computers are involved to this issue?
    • What is the exact error message that you have encountered?
    • What is the build number and version of your Windows?
    • The 4 user accounts on your PC, did you set all of it as an administrator?

In the meantime, we suggest that you enable the hidden administrator account in Windows 10 by following these steps using one of your user account:

    • Click on Start.
    • Type cmd, and right-click on it.
    • Select Run as administrator.
    • Type this command line, and then press Enter:

      net user administrator /active:yes
    • You should see a message that the command completed successfully. Log out, and you’ll now see the Administrator account as a choice.

Note: There's no password for the hidden administrator account.

After enabling the hidden administrator account, change the account type of your user accounts to gain administrative privileges:

    • Press Windows key + I to open Settings.
    • Click on Accounts.
    • Click on Family & other people.
    • Under Other people, select one of the user account, and then select
      Change account type.
    • Under Account type, select Administrator
      from the drop down menu.
    • Click on OK to complete.

After performing the steps above, we will need to disable the hidden administrator because we are using hidden administrator just for troubleshooting. Kindly follow these steps:

    • Click on Start.
    • Type cmd, and right-click on it.
    • Select Run as administrator.
    • Type this command line, and then press Enter:

      net user administrator /active:no
    • The administrator account will now be disabled, and shouldn’t show up on the login screen anymore.

Let us know if you need further assistance.

Settings can't be opened using the built-in administrator account

    Hello,
Unfortunately I have the same issue as Dabz from upgrading win7 to win10.
I've tried opening settings using all the suggested methods and it will not load using my account with Administrator access nor the built-in Administrator profile. I also tried other methods not listed such as using Run. Control panel is just a stepping stone to add users in Settings.
I'm also having explorer.exe issues, which I believe is preventing Settings from loading.
Using cmd (Admin) I successfully created a new user profile [and granted admin access also using cmd (Admin)], however win10 will not allow this account to log on. win10 does not list this new user within control panel but it does in the start menu. win10 will not allow to log in or switch to the new account via the start menu either.
I can access settings in Safe Mode but this will not allow me to create a new account.
Any help/suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
    Cheers
