Microsoft’s reorg confirms its renewed investment in Windows 10

Earlier this year, Microsoft’s Surface head Panos Panay started leading the new Windows + Devices group at Microsoft. This allows Panos Panay to oversee the work on Microsoft’s Surface and Windows 10, and other Windows product like Windows 10X.

While Windows 10 is more popular than ever after Microsoft killed off Windows 7, the recent faulty updates have seriously damaged Microsoft’s reputation.

In another move to refocus on Windows as an operating system, Microsoft is reportedly further reorganizing the teams. As part of the reorg, Microsoft will be moving part of its Windows engineering team out of Azure and the employees will work with Windows and Devices group, which is being headed by Panos Panay.

This move comes after Microsoft realized the importance of Windows to its business during the past few months. According to reports, Microsoft’s Windows + Devices group will build platforms and products that create and complete magical experiences under the leadership of Panos Panay.

Microsoft’s Windows + Devices group aims to grow the business of Windows and Surface, and deliver the iconic experiences across the form factors. It’s no secret that Windows 10 has seen huge engagement numbers over the past few months and it’s more popular than ever, thanks in part to the current world health crisis.

Bringing Surface devices, Windows fundamentals and developer experience into the same team under Panos Panay is a great move in our opinion. Given Panos Panay’s track record, this move could turn Windows 10’s fortunes around and address the problems with the operating system.

It’s also believed that Windows could be on the verge of design improvements.

For instance, Microsoft’s Ralf Groene is now the corporate vice president (CVP) of Design Windows and Devices at Microsoft. Groene is also the head of Industrial Design for Surface and he could play an important role in Windows design and development.

  3. Microsoft Selects Dolby Audio for Windows 10

it would've been great if microsoft added HEVC decoders, LAV filters along with other codecs with Windows 10, and developing WMP to be better than VLC, KMPlayer and such sorts of media players.

Nevertheless, this is good step for microsoft, by far.
