That's what the auto setting will do since you're over the 1333 mark it jumps to the next step which isn't listed or officially supported I assume by that ram.

At this point though I would suggest dropping the multi one step or .5 so that we can get something stable and possibly take the heat issue out of the picture for now.

The tutorials provided are just a list of troubleshooting steps. Use only the steps which apply to you.

Since none of the troubleshooting steps here worked, I'd suggest you do a Clean install.

New card recommendations, and what to do about the old one.

Ack, totally forgot to list the AGP specs. First post edited to add "AGP Pro/8X/4X (0.8V, 1.5V only)" from a site that lists specs, since ASUS' site is down.

AphexDreamer: I don't think I need HD, and I don't want to go to Vista. However even if I do, it won't be with this computer. Would a DX10 card benefit me while still on XP? Sure, a DX10 card will be better than what I have now but I don't think that would be due to the DX10 feature specifically. As for the card you linked, it has a lot of so-so reviews. Do you have a particular reason for suggesting it? New MB and GPU is beyond my means right now. That would mean new memory, new CPU, and while I'm being honest here my case really sucks so a new case too. *Wink Which one do I do? It’s a new computer... ;)

happita: I have little recent experience with Nvidia cards. I see that one is a step up from the other, but are there any real differences between the two? The 7800GS can be had for $80 off right now so that's quite tempting.

unsmart: Problem is, I want to upgrade but in the short term I'm worried about what happens the very next time I boot my system! On Newegg I see a few X1950's put together by different vendors, do you have any preferences?
