Database users -- MySQL or MariaDB

    Hi there

It looks as if in future MySql won't be 100% compatible with MariaDB. -- is there any point in switching now to save hassles in future (currently all commands etc work equally on both systems) or for most people is this not really an issue. Tables, sql syntax etc work without modification on either system at the moment. I'm currently using MySQL whears a lot of the community stuff seems to be going towards MariaDB. Both also run on Windows --no probs currently.

I'm speaking here of both community versions which are free for home / small business use. The main problem with MySQL as I can see it is that it's part of ORACLE who also have their own commercial proprietary database system so some features for that might get incorporated on to MariaDB.

I've nothing against commercial companies being involved in Open Source products - but one has to be careful where the boundaries lie --currently IBM has been fine in its management of Red Hat (RHEL, CENTOS,FEDORA) and CANONICAL in UBUNTU - although "The natives are getting a bit restless with Canonical's involvment at the moment.

Both these systems work well on Windows too -- so anybody using these got any comments on whether to "Stick or Switch". (I use for WAMP and LAMP servers - WAMP is Windows Apache Mysql,PHP and LAMP is Linux Apache MySQL PHP. Mysql can be either MariaDB or Mysql.

I'm sure a few here have a web server or two - so what are you using if you don't like WAMP/LAMP.

Ms's own Web server pages is a horrendous bit of stuff to get working !!!!! WAMP / LAMP both install essentially out of the box.

Apache server with MySQL working -- Php test page : (The MySQL bit).

    Windows running latest DEV release.

With fast internet connections these days with decent upload speeds too - it's easy to create your own web servers -- although you don't want "Too much traffic" before ISP gets a bit niggledly. !!!! Fortunately mine are great and unlimited bandwidth.

    Cheers

Convert EXCEL sheets to MySql / MariaDB with links to music

    Hi folks
I'm trying to create a decent Music Database

Basically rather than messing around with zillions of files / tracks / playlists etc I want to use one of the Free database systems (MySQL / MariaDB - both similar and work on Windows).

I have a load of spreadsheets -- what I want basically to start testing (can add other fields later) is for Album title, file / track name and path where the link will be able to link directly to the music track and application will play the file

Using this type of database I can then create my own queries if I want specific music etc

Once you get 1 TB or more of music data using traditional libraries / playlists etc doesn't really cut it any more

For the spreadsheets I used Mp3tag to save as csv, imported into excel where the ';' character is used as mp3tags delimiter and now I want to import these spreadsheets into MySQL -- not sure though how to handle the binary objects (the music files)

Here's a typical spreadsheet I want to import into the DB.

    Any ideas anyone

From the sample spreadsheet shown above -- just a small test to start with say 3 or 4 fields in the DB would be fine -- I can expand later -- what I need is the best way of handling the binary files - MariaDB or MySQL are so similar - either will do.

I don't want proprietary systems - most music type libraries - especially for consumer stuff usually break quite often and have problems if they expand over several disks or you swap disks around. MySQL / MariaDB are open source and robust so no probs there.

Any DBA's out there -- probably simple - 90 secs work for you gurus. !!

    Cheers

  3. How to completely uninstall MySQL?

    Hi,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

Which version of Windows is installed on your device?

Refer the article ‘Which Windows operating system am I running
    to provide the details.

I suggest you to follow the steps mentioned below to uninstall MySQL from the device.

    Step 1

Uninstall MySQL from Control Panel. To do so,

Go to Control Panel >Programs and Features > Select
    MySQL > Click on Uninstall.

After you have uninstalled MySQL through Add/Remove programs, you now need to remove the existing database information which includes your actual data. If you need any of that data, be sure to back it up. Next you can delete
    the data directory.

    Step 2

Run Command Prompt as Administrator and execute the following command to stop and remove MySQL service.

    Net stop MySQL

    Sc delete MySQL

    Step 3

    1. Click on Start, type in Show hidden files and folders.
    2. Select the View tab and select
      Show hidden files and folders
      .
    3. Now explore the following locations and delete following folders.

      C:\Program Files\MySQL

      C:\Program Files (x86)\MySQL

      C:\ProgramData\MySQL

And if exists, delete the folder from the location.

      C:\Users\[User-Name]\AppData\Roaming\MySQL
    4. Restart your device and check the status.

Get back to us for further assistance on this issue. We will be happy to help you.

  4. Database users -- MySQL or MariaDB

i have a problem with MySQL on my laptop windows 10 bit 64

first of all, i mistakenly typed "sc delete mysql" in the command prompt because my Xampp mysql is not responding.

Later, i uninstall Xampp and reinstall it again and MySQL started working. so i uninstall Mariadb and reinstall it again. While installing Mariadb, it stopped and displayed a message saying "service "MySQL"
(MySQL) failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start system services." i would like you to help me solve this problem. Thank you.
