Windows resets my router when I start working on my computer after a period of inactivity

For the past couple of weeks, whenever I start using my computer after it turns off the monitor, it seems to reset my router.

I have power settings to avoid the computer from sleeping, and I have set it so it does not put anything to sleep.

However, every time I turn on the monitor and try to use the computer, the router resets. There is nothing wrong with the router an Orbi, as everything is fine with the network. The moment I start using my computer, the router reboots, then it works fine.

Is there a setting in Windows or in Windows Defender that does this? I have tried everything I could think of and nothing seems to change the behavior.

    :)

  2. System Freeze after a random period of inactivity (supposedly)

    Hi all,

I didn't know where to put this thread, but because it has to do with system performance, I thought this might be the best place to post my issues with Win 10. Let me get straight to the point:
    • Up-to-date Windows 10 install (ver 1511 OS Build 10586.36)
    • I haven't tested it but it seems like when the computer becomes inactive after a period of time, the whole system freezes - the mouse isn't moving, the desktop remains static on the last windows that were there, the time remains static (it doesn't change), CTRL+ALT+DELETE doesn't work. Only solution seems to be to a hard reboot.
    • In all other aspects the computer works fine: no virus (as determined by up-to-date version of Free Avast AV), SSD runs super fast, computer reboots, shuts down and goes to sleep perfectly. It's just when I am working on the computer and get sidetracked and when the computer becomes inactive, the computer freezes.
System Specs (other relevant aspects of my system can be viewed on my system specs page):
    • Custom Built: E6700 non-OC
    • 4 GB DDR2 RAM
    • GTX 970 (up to date driver: 361.43)
Any thoughts? Is there some sort of log that I can call up to show what is causing this stall/freeze/hang-up?

    Thanks again!

  3. Windows 10 apps after a long period of inactivity

The troubleshooter didn't fix the issue.

I already reinstalled windows many times, and there are no changes on my computer. I only use store apps also.

And the problems starts when there is a long period of inactivity, when I restart the pc the problems are gone for 2-3 hours.

Ethernet Can't Obtain an IP Address from My Router

    I really appreciate everyone's ideas!

I'm working through the suggestions, and here's an update:

I removed my Kaspersky software using Kaspersky's own uninstaller (kavremover.) This did not solve the problem, unfortunately.

Next step: Restoring my router to default settings.

    - - - Updated - - -

    I performed two final steps:

I booted my computer from a live Linux distro; Linux detected my Ethernet controller but could not obtain an IP address for it from DHCP (demonstrating that the problem is not caused by Windows.)

I reset my modem to factory defaults - no help.

Therefore, it seems very clear to me that my problem - I am unable to obtain an IP address for an Ethernet connection - can only be caused by the router hardware. My router is 7 years old, and nothing lasts forever ... I accept that. Still, it does seem mysterious to me. My router consists entirely of electrical components - there's nothing to wear out or break. As long as I don't abuse it, it should probably last forever and the only reason I would have to replace it is because newer equipment is so much better.

My final step was to contact the router manufacturer (ASUS) who assigned me a case number. I can't imagine what incentive they have to assist me with a 7-year old router, but I'll give it a shot.
