    DPC_WATCHDOG_VIOLATION on Laptop Sleep

I have an HP envy x360 13 laptop with Ryzen 2500U running Windows 10, 2004. When putting the device to sleep, either via selecting from the power menu, or by closing the lid of the laptop, I frequently encounter an issue where the device fans begin spinning at full speed, the device becomes warm, the power indicator remains lit. After a few minutes, the device fully powers down not sure if this is thermal limiting or something else. I have examined the Event log and the minidumps and in each case it appears to be the DPC_WATCHDOG_VIOLATION 133 error. However, in each case the file or symbol indicated by !analyze -v is different. This is probably an indication that I do not know how to effectively debug this issue.

As a note, there are no peripherals connected to the laptop currently and this error only occurs during attempting to put the device to sleep - I have never experienced this problem as a BSOD.

Below are links to my minidump files, as well as the "Administrative Events" log. Can anyone help find where the fault is actually occurring?

    DPC_watchdog_violation

I did both of the things you suggested. It said that all my drivers are up to date. It scanned and repaired my hard drive. When I turn on my computer, it seems to boot up okay now. However, whenever the computer goes to sleep the problem with DPC_watchdog_violation
still comes up. Any other suggestions? Thanks!

    Hi,

It is possible that the error DPC_WATCHDOG_VIOLATION may occur if the iastor.sys driver is incompatible with Windows 10. To isolate your issue, we'd like to gather more information:

    • Have you made any recent changes before this issue occurred?
    • What troubleshooting steps have you done so far?

Any response will be highly appreciated.

Hibernating laptop changes to sleep behaviour after Windows 10 May 2019 update

    Hi Aditya,

Thank you for your reply. I have tried the two steps (turning of Hybrid sleep and Fast startup) you suggested but to no avail. Okay, for your two questions:

    1. My laptop is a HP Pavilion 14-bf101tx, and currently running Windows 10 1903 (upgrading from 1809).
    2. Nope. No error messages. I suppose the boot process was successful, however, my battery was reduced. That's why I suggest the post title as "Hibernating changes to sleep behaviour" because the battery level reduction looks like sleep behaviour.

Please inform me of any diagnostics information you might need. Thank you for your kind assistance.
