Hey all, thanks for taking the time to view this post, this is a real headscratcher.

I installed the kb4565503 cumulative update about a week ago and I noticed a few days after installing that my notepad has gone from my PC. I re-added it to my PC through adding a feature, thought my problems were solved. I recently tried to check for Windows updates and noticed a bunch of weird things wrong with it.

Firstly, it says the update was installed on the 28/07 which doesn't sound correct.

    Cumulative update with wrong date.

Secondly, I cannot uninstall the update, it does not appear on my "uninstall an update" page.

    KB4565503 does not appear.

Tried to uninstall the update through CMD.

Result of running the CMD command.

    All updates.

After doing some Googling, I have understood that this notepad issue is common with this cumulative update, so that explains the notepad problem. However it is almost as if this update has messed something up.

    ____________________________________________________

    Things I have tried:

    • Running sfc /scannow (reports no issues, completes at 100%).
    • I have tried all(?) of the Dism.exe commands, including Dism.exe /online /Cleanup-Image /StartComponentCleanup which finishes at 20 percent*.* Not sure if this is a big deal or what it actually means.

    https://preview.redd.it/4ry7yxevv5g...bp&s=1d9238ba87ee299a859826ad9a2d5674591a8593

    • Manually installing the update through the Microsoft catalog, no matter what installer I download, it does not run, says not compatible with my version of Windows or some rubbish.
    • Using disk cleanup - noticed that no matter how many times I ran it ON ADMINISTRATOR, it did not delete the Windows Update files. I then found a more "forceful" CMD command that opens up a more advanced version of the Windows disk cleaner. I think it has done the job as the Windows Update section no longer appears on disk cleaner.
    • Disk defrag/optimise.
    • Completely cleaned the servicing/LSU file and removed updates through that method.

Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions? It doesn't visibly cause any problems with my computer, I do not get any errors or malfunctions, it's just more of an annoyance to me that my Windows seems off. I could do a system restore but I'm trying to prevent doing that. I was, until maybe now, planning on waiting for an update to come out in the future that I'm hoping will fix this issue.

Suggestions and ideas all welcome, thanks for reading.

    EDIT:

    This is my winver.

  3. Help, cant create windows image

    Hello there, @fullinfusion!

It seems like some sort of an OS confusion has happened with your secondary WD Black and I'm sorry to hear about that. *Frown KB4565503 causing me all sorts of confusion! Windows experts please help. :(
Maybe re-formatting it would help indeed as the community already mentioned. I'd suggest to take a look at this step-by-step how to partition and format an HDD: http://products.wdc.com/support/kb.ashx?id=PYCoid
Keep in mind that this will wipe clean the drive, so you should backup all important data from the drive somewhere else.
I noticed from the screenshots that your HDD appears as Disk 0, this means that it's plugged in the primary SATA port where the SSD (as an OS drive) should be. Actually it is possible that because of this Windows cannot create the image there. Swap the ports of the SSD and the HDD, this might help as well.

Keep me posted. Hope this helped! *Smile KB4565503 causing me all sorts of confusion! Windows experts please help. :)

    KB4565503 repeated consistent failure

    Hello KeithHarris,

Thanks for the response. Sorry it was not able to resolve your issue. Please try the steps below:

Step 1. Please kindly read this documentation about the release of KB4565503 and how to install it. Please take note on the "How to get this update" section of the document since you need to install something.

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/456550...

Step 2: Microsoft strongly recommends you install the latest servicing stack update (SSU) for your operating system before installing the latest cumulative update (LCU). SSUs improve the reliability of the update process to mitigate potential issues while installing
the LCU and applying Microsoft security fixes.

If you are using Windows Update, the latest SSU (KB4566785) will be offered to you automatically. To get the standalone package for the latest SSU, search for it in the Microsoft Update Catalog.

You can download the latest SSU on this link, look for the correct file for you current Windows 10 version. After you download, you can install it in your PC.

    https://www.catalog.update.microsoft.com/Search...

Step 3. After installing the latest SSU, since you already have the stand alone KB4565503 file, please install it then.

Please let me know the results after you follow the steps above.

Please let me know if you need further assistance.

    Keep safe always.

    Sincerely,

    Antonio
