Windows 10: DVD -RW recognizes CDs but thinks there's no disc when DVD in inserted

I have been facing this problem after updating to Windows version 1903. It continues now after upgrading to version 2004 of May 2020. I have a TSSTcorp DVD+-RW TS-H653H optical drive on my DELL Vostro 460 desktop. The drive recognizes all CDs that I had written / rewritten to earlier and shows or plays files stored on them. However , when I insert any of the DVDs on which I had written files earlier, the Files Explorer either keeps showing the green bar for an indefinite period or does nothing. If I double click on the device in "This PC" it gives a message to "Insert a disc" and ejects the tray.

Here I am NOT talking about playing DVD media eg movies but about the DVD as a file storage medium.

The DVD region setting is 5, in case this has any relevance ....

How can I access all my DVDs where many data and software files are stored ??

DVD RW Drive E not recognizing formatted Verbatim DVD-R Disc

My DVD RW Drive E does not recognize a formatted Verbatim DVD-R Disc that I am trying to burn.

Any suggestions?

CD/DVD R wont recognize disc

Dell Laptop, E6500. Win 10 Home, Version 1703, OS Build 15063.483,

Microsoft Edge Browser.

CD/DVD R, TSSTcorpDVD+-RW TS-U633A

It does not recognize CD when inserted. Device Manager says it is installed and working properly.
Latest driver is installed. Have un-installed it and rebooted. Settings show Autorun to be checked on. Removed CD unit from laptop and reinserted in attempt to clean contacts.

At command prompt, D:/Autorun says “Insert disc” when disc is already inserted. Checked on
MSFT Community and did what suggestions were pertinent to this computer, attempted to get new driver and firmware update from TSST Corp, to no avail. Sends me to some downloader I never heard of and don’t want to screw
this up any more than it already is. Is there a way to check the CD/DVD to see if it is the problem?

Am at a total loss as to what to do next.

CD/DVD drive not recognized

First, try inserting a disc in the drive, does it spin up?
--Yes, I put a blank CD in, and it spins up.

A few other suggestions

Try uninstalling the device in Dev mgr, wait 2 or 3 minutes and if Windows doesn't cycle though hardware changes, right click any device and select Scan for Hardware changes.

--Yes, I've uninstalled it and waited. Tried this with the CD in. Nothing happened after a few minutes, so I did the Scan for Hardware changes. Still Unknown Device. I've even tried updating and grabbing the drivers off the HP site, updating those drivers didn't help. Tried the update drivers, didn't fix the issue.

You might also want to check File and Folder options in File Explorer
press the blue file menu,
select Change folder and Serach options
select the View tab
is show empty drives selected?

---This was hidden. I've unhidden it as in the screen shot of my folder options.

It would help members if you could post a screen shot of Dev mgr device properties (post the first 4 tabs)

If it is an unknown device -post the General tab and the Details.
On the Details tab, select Hardware IDs from the drop down box

I'm not sure if these suggestions will help. I had a similar issue with a CD drive on a Vista box, turned out to be a hardware issue on the Mobo. The optical drive is really controlled by a few settings (DVD, CD, Writer) and when it doesn't work, it is hard to diagnose.

If the device worked before (recently), it's a Win10 issue, and it might be version specific. There are known issues with AMD graphics drivers, this might extend to the chipset as well - those with Intel boards / CPUs can ignore this part. It's a guess anyway.

--Installed WIN 10 with this drive, it worked until 10 was installed.

If you're comfortable with hardware, you might try removing the optical drive from the box, restarting without it attached, and then shut down, reinstall the optical drive and start up the machine.

Follow instructions in the service manual for your device or on the mfr website.

---I'm okay with opening latops. I've opened this one 3 times, adding SSD HD and upgrading RAM. I'll be able to try this later on, Friday, probably. With it spinning up when a CD is inserted, I'm not sure this would help. I'd appreciate advice on this.
