  1. Bitlocker, VBS and Dual Boot.

    Hello.

I have some questions regarding the topics of bitlocker, virtualization based security and dual boot.

The situation is that I need to learn Linux administration for a project, so far I have used Hyper-V to learn the ropes and now I need to install a full linux distribution.

The issue is that there are some questions that I felt are more appropriate to ask here:

I am going to install Linux on an external SDD, the distribution I am going to use supports secure boot.

I notice that linux installs Grub2 as the boot loader but right now there is a security flaw regarding dual-boot with linux.

My first question: What happens to bootmgr when grub2 is installed? Is it installed on the SDD to boot the OS inside thatonly drive or is it for the entire computer? I do not wish to use Grub2 to boot Windows. In fact I would rather not have my linux distribution interact with my Windows drive at all.

Second question: I wish to encrypt my Windows Drive, which is mounted inside a m.2 drive. I do not wish to access it while I am still learning Linux. Should I encrypt my Windows drive and disable it, or would encryption be enough?

I do not wish to accidentally harm the integrity of my Windows OS as I am still new to Linux security. I wish to either encrypt the drive and disable it from the Bios / UEFI but I am not sure what would the recommended procedure is for this instances.

Returning to my previous question, would Grub2 interfere with Bitlocker on anyway? I plan on using bitlocker to encrypt the disk that holds my Windows Drive.

Third question: I have Virtualization Based Security enabled for the moment, I am also unsure what happens to this layer of protection should I decide to use Grub2 or Encrypt my drive with Bitlocker.

Any answer is appreciated and thank you for your time.

    :)

  3. Can I use Bitlocker with Dual-Boot setup?

Thanks, I just learned to install Windows first and then encrypt with Bitlocker and then create a separate partition for Linux within Windows. I got the full procedure here in case somebody has the same question
