Microsoft store and store apps do not appear in Settings/Apps, and they all crash in a few...

I have a correction to the information below. It is not just the Store App and the Solitare Epic App that crash. It seems that all "modern" apps, like Paint 3D, Weather, etc. crash in seconds after opening. And none of them show up in Settings/Apps or anywhere else other than the Start Menu.

The problem of the Microsoft Store crashing immediately after opening has been an issue for others for example, see https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us...image-is/a08ae8a1-20b3-4491-82a6-8c1e04ca3e15. I have not seen it, however, paired with the Store or the other Store App I have installed Solitare Epic not showing up in Settings/Apps or anywhere else except the Start Menu.

When I tried the recommended fix in the link above, it fails. When I issue the command to "del StateRepository-*", it gives, for each file name, a message saying "The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process." This happens even if I run the command immediately after a reboot although Chrome is running so I can copy/paste the commands.

I have also tried the steps to do several things recommended on this page https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us...-opening/b75008ad-f210-4e87-958a-bab7d8e71b91 to repair the store, but none worked. The most powerful seemed to be to Uninstall/Reinstall the store app in Powershell administrator using "Get-AppxPackage -allusers *WindowsStore* Remove-AppxPackage". But that command fails with the message:

Get-AppxPackage : The database disk image is malformed
The database disk image is malformed
    At line:1 char:1
    + Get-AppxPackage -allusers *WindowsStore* Remove-AppxPackage
    + ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    + CategoryInfo : NotSpecified: : [Get-AppxPackage], Exception
    + FullyQualifiedErrorId : System.Exception,Microsoft.Windows.Appx.PackageManager.Commands.GetAppxPackageCommand

I get a message about a malformed database in several other commands, as well.

I even did a reinstall of Windows 10, version 1909 keeping files and apps as a last ditch repair. It took a long time, but went to completion. Unfortunately, it did not correct this issue.

So, any other suggestions on how I can get the Microsoft Store App Modern Apps to: 1 run without immediately crashing, and 2 show up in Settings/Apps and elsewhere other than the Start Menu?

    :)

Microsoft is purging a lot of low quality apps from the Windows Store

"Microsoft is sending emails to some Windows Store developers informing them that their apps have been removed from the Store for violating its quality standards."

"Neowin reports that app developers have been receiving these emails over the past couple of days:

In its latest review of the Store, Microsoft is evaluating if the published apps are good enough to be listed in the Windows Store. This includes publicly available apps as well as private beta apps. Additionally, Microsoft is also asking developers to delete any promotional campaigns for their apps to prevent advertising charges. Similarly, app name reservations are also being nullified; which means that if your app is unpublished, there's no guarantee that you'll be able to republish it under the same name.

Officially, the policies for the Microsoft Store says that apps must have "distinct and informative metadata" and "provide a valuable and quality user experience". There are also some specific standards that must be in the apps, including having a name that is not similar to another app or device, along with offering a description that is accurate about its features and functions.

There have certainly been many Windows Store users who have complained over the years about the large number of apps published that are clones of other apps or ones that are simply poorly made. Hopefully, this new move by Microsoft will help to curb these issues, at least for now.

Apple Claims Steam Link App Violates App Store Guidelines

Look... the Steam app "violates" the App Store rules because Apple is coming out with something similar. You can't have a competitor operating in your own App Store.

Wat? Steam app is mostly Windows already. They don't need a Windows 10 app. Windows S is dead, you mean Windows 10 in S mode? S mode is for locked down environments like schools, demos, low spec computers, etc.

Don't know how we got to talking about Steam on Microsoft Store...
