Windows 10: Windows 10 applications do not run with standard user rights anymore

Hello everyone!

Suddenly out of nowhere, we have some clients where, after a reboot, applications do not run anymore with standard user rights. Only by launching them with "Run as administrator" they will run.

Launching them with standard user rights leading into crashes. Affects i.e. Office, Jabber, Internet Explorer. Strange though, Chrome does launch, but doesn't let me download anything into my user download folder, telling me that I have insufficent permissions.


I have resetted NTFS permissions on all program folders but that didn't help. Disabled and uninstalled antivirus as well.


There are no unknown processes running and no unusual services. Event log doesn't report anything unusual except those applications crashing.


Happened primarly on 1809 builds, but others are affected also. September updates are not the cause, as they didn't ran on many of the affected machines.


sfc /scannow didn't show any errors and dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth didn't help as well.

Anyone might have an idea what can cause this?

Allow Standard User run application as admin

we have a shortcut that is calling a .exe file that requires admin rights by the UAC. I would like to be able to run the application without any admin rights or give the standard user admin rights only to this .exe. What we have done and failed.

1. Application properties >> security >> Advanced >> Permissions >> Full Control
   
   to local group A (which includes the user) and user by them self.
   
   1. Gave ownership of folder to local Group A.
      
   2. I looked in Regedit and I see the user, and they have full control for that application.
      
   3. have checked run as admin and unchecked too.
      We do not want to use /savecred because of security risk. What other steps can we take to find a solution.

  Right Click on the FL studio application shortcut.

  Select properties.
  
• 
  Under shortcuts select advanced.
  
• 
  Check the box Run as administrator and check if it helps.

You mentioned checking the the box 'Run as Administrator'

This is the opposite of what I require ,I wanted to avoid running programs as admin . By unchecking 'Run As Administrator' I am still getting an admin credential verification prompt

Any further suggestions ?
