  1. Quick access issue - Can't delete two Automatic Destinations strings

I've tried everything and come close, but no cigar regarding removal of one item in Quick access. That one item is a link to a now-empty but formerly full G: partition. The problem is I am unable to delete the f01b4d95cf55d32a.automaticDestinations-ms and 5f7b5f1e01b83767.automaticDestinations-ms strings. I have been able to delete all the other automaticdestination strings.

    Windows 10.0.19041

The issue stems from replacing the dead main hard drive with a new 2TB drive. I partitioned it. Half for the OS, half for document. I put My Documents files and Download(ed) files in the other (GQuick access issue - Can't delete two Automatic Destinations strings :) partition. Downloads became a subfolder of Documents. When I tried to move/change location of the Downloads folder, I received some message about "Do you really want to do this? It cannot be undone." I went ahead.

Then that "Duh" moment. Don't put user files on the OS drive. I reformatted the G: drive. Left it empty. All was well. From that moment, G:\ keeps appearing in Quick access and nothing I have done has removed it. The G:\ in Quick access keeps looking for the Downloads folder. I try adding a blank Downloads folder to G:\ to make it happy, but that doesn't work.

Therein is my problem to which I refer in the first paragraph. 4-5 hours on this. Time for a beer.

    :)

  2. Issue with Quick Access on Windows 10

    Hi,

I have followed all of your solution for Quick Access issue (it is not showing in the file explorer and is inactive)

I tried to delete all files from these two folders as you mentioned:

    • %AppData%\Microsoft\Windows\Recent\AutomaticDestinations
    • %AppData%\Microsoft\Windows\Recent\CustomDestinations
But there are two files that I could not delete them from the first link (automatic destination) not at all

So when I restart the pc I have the problem again and Quick Access does not show up in my file explorer.

    Thank you for your help

  3. Quick Access bar

    Hi,

Thank you for posting your query in Microsoft Community.

We would be glad to help you with the issue you are facing today. I understand the difficulty.

    Remove items from Quick access.

I would suggest you to follow the below steps.

    • Right click on the file or folder.
    • Select the option “unpin from the quick access”

To pin items to an item already on the quick access bar.

    Follow the below steps.

I would suggest you to create folder in the desktop screen & place all the files or folder which need to pin to the quick access.

    • Open the quick access.
    • Select the Desktop option.
    • Right click on the folder & select the option “pin to quick access”

Hope this helps in resolving the issue. If the issue persists, do get back to us. We will be happy to assist you.

    Thank you.

  4. Quick access issue - Can't delete two Automatic Destinations strings

    Quick Access

    The reply isn't helpful unfortunately.

The question/posting wasn't about deleting files or permanently deleting files.

But about the display of recent files in Quick Access view, which is shown when opening File Explorer => Windows 10.

Quick Access shows a list of (supposedly) recent files that have been opened. It doesn't automatically update when other files are opened.

My question was about listings in Quick Access that showed files as having been moved or renamed when in fact they had been deleted (I would suggest the Recycle Bin).

So to my partner the Quick Access listing was stating I had (attempted to) move/rename the files (and therefore hide them from her) whereas I had actually deleted them.

I would appreciate someone verifying this is plausible with the way file listings are listed in Windows 10/Quick Access.
