Windows 10: Windows 10 Backup fails after installing Feature Update 2004

Windows 10 Backup Windows 7 style fails after Feature Update 2004 was installed.


I had not run any successful backups since just before installing Feature Update 2004. This week I cleared my backup hard drive of old versions, but now it fails after a minute or two of run time with error code 0x81000019. The error indicates a disk space shortage, but that is just not true. Event Log errors indicate a Volume Shadow Services error 0x80042302.


I have run out of ideas to try to resolve the trouble.



Facts -- Windows 10 Pro 64-bit, Dell Precision 690 computer, about 200 Gb to back up from a Samsung 860 Pro 512 Gb SSD; 640 Gb free on backup target HD Seagate ST3000NM0023, the Windows 10 recovery partition has about 1.2 Gb free.

Windows Updates failed to instal

I just did step one and they have just all installed.... thank you so much.... it was quite frustrating having that update window pop up every 5 minutes and failing to instal every time
