  1. Is a "Microsoft account problem" popup legitimate?

A week ago, this popup appeared on the notification panel (righthand side) on my laptop. I clicked it and it took me to "Accounts" in the Settings with the messge "Some of your accounts require attention," and below that a "FIX NOW" button. Clicked that, and I got a Windows Security popup -- "Making Sure It's You," with a request to type in my 4-digit PIN. Which I did. And the popup closed and said everything was taken care of. That was it.

Now, I haven't changed my password in maybe a year (yeah, I know). And two days ago, I got exactly the same "accoiunt problem" popup. Which made me suspicious, so I just dismissed it from the notifications panel. But it's a persistent little bugger and it's back again this morning.

So, does anyone here know? Is this a legitimate request from Windows? (In which case, what exactly is the "problem," since it accepted my PIN?) Or is this malware or some other invasive intrusion? MalwareBytes doesn't seem to notice it, so I dunno.

  4. Is a "Microsoft account problem" popup legitimate?

    Popup message from Microsoft

I have been receiving this popup message:

    "Microsoft account problem

We need to fix your Microsoft account (most likely your password changed). Select here to fix it in Shared experiences settings."

Is this a legitimate message or is it a scam?
