    Hi, I have a laptop that needs Windows 10 reinstalling on it, as it has some errors on it. The laptop was previously a Windows 7 unit but worked OK on Windows 10 for a while.


    My question is this: The laptop has a legacy System Reserved partition on it, which I assume is from the original Windows 7 OS, and it wasn't eliminated the first time I clean installed Windows 10 using Windows 10 Installation Media, and the System Reserved partition is now at 13% fragmentation.


    What I'd like to know is: - is there an easy and safe way to delete everything on the laptop including the System Reserved partition, when I reinstall Windows 10?

    No. I have such setup since Windows XP and it works great. 50GB chuck of drive is reserved for system partition and data partition is the remaining disk size. When installing new OS, I just delete the first partition, recreate new one and install OS. System is installed clean each time and all the existing data remains where it was, on the secondary data partition. This way you can change systems in matter of hours without any fiddling with your stored data.

    Thanks. Actually bought system partitions existed and neither had a System Reserve Partition when I upgraded each to Windows 10. Also I booted to a ISO DVD to complete the clean install and formatted the system partition in both cases.

    The only difference between the two upgrades is that last fall when I upgraded the first system partition, a two step process (upgrade then clean install) was required. When I upgraded the second system partition last week, I was able to complete the upgrade
    and clean install in a single step.
