Windows 10: a definitive end to the mat-debug*.log files in temp folder

I've searched these forums to understand more about the continous creation of mat-debug*.log files in %temp%. The problem is that there are quite a few threads about this topic that have been closed even though they contain incorrect information.

What I'm looking for is a solution which I can understand. One of the proposed solutions is to use msconfig.exe to reboot the PC in safe mode. Such answers, like ones where we're called upon to execute cleanmgr, are quite unsatisfying as the root cause never becomes clear, and as appears from many reports also doesn't guarantee the problem won't come back.


I've established definitively -by using my anti-virus in high alert mode- that process "C:\Windows\System32\RuntimeBroker.exe" spawns a process "LocalBridge.exe" location: "C:\Program Files\WindowsApps\Microsoft.MicrosoftOfficeHub_18.2008.12711.0_x64__8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalBridge.exe"


So, it's obvious that Microsoft Office, specifically Microsoft Office Hub, is responsible for creating these logs. But which part? Some suggest that Microsoft OneDrive is the culprit, but AFAIK I have uninstalled OneDrive.


What's the best way to definitively get rid of the creation of mat-debug*.log?

mat-debug-xxxx.log files in temp folder

Hello, I have this happening to me since yesterday. I am seeing mat-debug log files in the temp folder too but each of them is empty, all are 0 kb. It's happening suddenly since yesterday. There isn't
any changes made on my PC recently so It just started like that. there will be another file named <random string>.db.ses file along with this in the temp folder. The mat debug log files are being created every few minutes interval. I searched but found nothing
on this topic, I only found one guy with this issue and here is the link to that thread mat-debug-xxxx.log files Beside
this I haven't found anything. Can someone tell me what it is and why it suddenly generating this mat debug log files ? And any possible solution to stop this, thank you in advance.

Hello Gina, I'm Didi, an independent advisor.

To get rid of the Mat-Debug files, follow this procedure :

1) Click on Start, type msconfig.exe and press Enter

2) Click on the "Boot" tab and check "Safe boot" and "Minimal"

3) Restart your computer (it should start in safe mode), go to File Explorer, right-click on the drive that contains the Mat-Debug files (usually it's the C:\ drive), click Properties and click Disk Clean-up to clean the Temp folder

4) After the Disk Clean-up is finished check with File Explorer that the Temp folder is empty of those Mat-Debug files, if it is not delete them manually

5) Go back to msconfig.exe and uncheck "Safe boot" to restart in normal mode

The problem should then be solved.
