Settings removed, no way to change keyboard layout

    Hi,

    As an windows administrator user

I'm trying to remove completely unwanted English layout which was added automatically without my permission during windows update.

I wish to use only my layout but there is no "language" or "keyboard layout" present in the control panel/settings.

    More details:

Currently I have Microsoft Windows version 1903, OS build 18362.30.

OS is installed quite recently and auto-updated afterwards, on purpose not activated as I know there are limits on how many times you can activate a copy... even if I have dozen of keys + some from MSDN subscription.

After large auto-update upgrade? where windows.old is created, many settings are lost overwritten with defaults.

Microsoft is successively blocking control panel entries - those are available only through regedit or other tools like nat ex. to add a new local user account in some versions. It also adds default keyboard I'm using English language with Polish programmer's layout - after upgrade English Language with English layout is added and set as default. There is no "Language" element in the control panel. I am not able to enter characters present in my desired layout ex. łóźńżć. LuckyI can use ctrl+shift shortcut to change my keyboard layout although I have removed English/English layout previously and there should be only one layout present in my systemand then enter ex. password.

Major issue is that every build has totally different settings. Some elements missing. Even the .mfc panels might not work in some versions ex. showing that the desired element is not available. Some settings are moved to "settings" application - but not all and it is filled with bugs so it can break on any element not starting at all. As a resultit is easier to use regedit than control panel. No information on the microsoft pages is accurate and every information needs to be bound to a specific build.

It seems to me that Microsoft is trying to kill control panel and move all the settings to online account page - possibly in the future demanding extra money to change them ex. you can change your wallpaper but it costs $10... . But that is my personal opinion.

Another option is that Microsoft is trying to kill Windows by making it user-unfriendly and force users to migrate onto Linux, which became much more user-friendly recently. Then the leak of WindowsXP sources to show that closed-source system is a bad idea.

    :)

  3. how to remove keyboard layout on Windows 10?

    Hi Eric,

    We regret the inconvenience caused.

The above issue might occur due to the following reasons:

    • Country & Region settings not enabling you to delete the keyboard language set on the PC.
    • Not choosing appropriate default keyboard layout.

Before we assist you further, I would like to ask you a few questions:

    • Did you try removing the keyboard layouts from Settings page?
    • If yes, does the issue persists even after removing the keyboard layout?

By removing the Keyboard layout from system Settings page, the language will be removed from the PC. However, if needed, you can download the same from system
Settings page and check if the changes made are effective.

You can remove the keyboard layout either from system Settings page or
Control panel. Follow either of the steps below to remove the keyboard layout and check if the issue is resolved.

    Step 1: System Settings window.

    • Press Windows logo + I keys on the keyboard to open
      Settings
      page.
    • Click on Time & language from the options and select
      Region & language
from the left side panel of the window.
    • Click on the keyboard language you want to remove under Languages and click on
      Remove.
    • Close the window and check if the changes are effective.

    Step 2: Control panel.

    • Press Windows logo + X keys on the keyboard and click on
Control panel from the context menu.
    • Click on View by option located at the top right corner of the window and select
Large icons from the dropdown bar.
    • From the panel, click on Language.
    • Under Change your language preferences click on the keyboard layout to remove and click on the
Remove button which will now be available to use.
    • Close the window and check if the changes are effective.

Write to us with the status of the issue on the keyboard layout language removed from the PC for further assistance. Your reply is most important for us to ensure we assist you accordingly.

    Thank you.

  4. Settings removed, no way to change keyboard layout

    Remove keyboard layout setting.

I have my PC set on English (UK), because for fixing stuff it's always more useful to have all the settings in English, easier to troubleshoot. My keyboard is the German layout, though. I have also installed the IME Japanese keyboard so I can write in kana.

Now, my issue is, that when I hit ALT+SHIFT to cycle between keyboard layouts, it switches from GER to J to EN, and then back to GER. The EN keyboard option is of absolutely no use for me, as my keyboard is German. I cannot find a way to remove that keyboard
option, though. I can remove the German and Japanese options alright, but not the English one. I tried changing my preferred keyboard to German, but I still cannot remove the English one.

The only option I see is changing my system language to German, but I do not want to do that. Is there a way to remove that English keyboard layout from my options so I can cycle between GER and J keyboards hassle free?

I tried going into the language and keyboard layout settings, but I cannot find the UK keyboard option anywhere (to remove it), as it is apparently installed as default.
