Windows 10: Can't Install Latest OEM Disk Drivers - "The best drivers for your device are already...

When I try to update the drivers for my Adaptec Array SCSI Disk Device, Windows tells me,"The best drivers for your device are already installed." But that isn't correct because the currently installed drivers are Microsoft's, dated 6/21/2006, whereas the Adaptec drivers I'm trying to install are dated 6/2/2020. They are the freshest drivers available, downloaded just moments ago from Adaptec's Microsemi's website.


To be clear, I am attempting to update the drivers through Device Manager > COMPUTERNAME > Disk Drives > Adaptec Array SCSI Disk Device > Properties > Driver tab > Update Driver button. I've tried every available option: "Search Automatically," "Search for updated drivers on Windows Update," "Browse my computer for drivers,"and "Let me pick from a list of available drivers on my computer." All produce the same result: "The best drivers for your device are already installed."


Unfortunately, I need to update the drivers because, after the latest Windows Update, my computer's disk performance dropped significantly. For example, daily backups that once took 20 minutes are now taking two hours.


Any advice is appreciated.

What Drivers To Install

Even though I purchased Windows 7 about two weeks ago, I have not installed it yet. I just want to make sure I install all of the correct things. So, I should have to install

• latest Intel Chipset Driver
• latest Intel Matrix Storage Manager (is this the only RAID thing I have to install?)
• latest Soundmax ADI Audio Driver
• latest Marvell Yukon Gigabit Ethernet Driver
• latest Marvell SATA driver
• latest ATI CCC and Driver
• Windows 7 should install the hyperthreading driver by itself right? Vista did.

 

Laptop driver/reformat question

This is excellent advice. Writing down the list of installed devices prior to re-formatting will save you a lot of heartache. With that list, you won't have to try to figure out exactly which wireless card or web cam driver you need since there will likely be several to choose from.

• Were you able to see any yellow exclamatory mark for the drivers on Device Manager?

Let us try the troubleshooting steps below if not yet tried and check if it helps.

Step 1: As a workaround, I suggest you to do the following to detect the issue:

• Connect the hard drive to different port and check if the issue persists.
• Connect different hard drive to the same port and check.
• Connect different hard drives to different ports and check.

Step 2: If the device is not detected on your computer try to run Hardware and Devices troubleshooter.

Hardware and Devices troubleshooter
checks for common problems and makes sure that any new device or hardware connected to your PC is installed correctly.

• Press Windows key from the keyboard, type
  Troubleshooting and select it.
• Click on view all option on the upper left corner of
  Troubleshooting window.
• Select the Hardware and Device
  options from the list.
• Click Next to run the
  Hardware and Device Troubleshooter.

Step 3: I suggest you to contact the device manufacturer's website, download the latest chipset drivers, install them manually and check if it helps.

Installing the latest chipset drivers will help you to install the drivers for USB ports.
