Fast I/O RAID 0 (hardware) or Storage spaces

    Hi folks
Just a question to our resident Windows Gurus.
For file serving to several clients and for things like MySQL / MariaDB for fast DB sql type queries does a decent Hardware RAID 0 card yield faster throughput than say using Storage spaces.

Note I'm aware of the risk of a RAID 0 configuration -- the data is backed up so if any HDD is lost there's no problem with re-building and re-creating the array even at the cost of some downtime --I'm not running "Mission Critical" activities here.

My experience over the last few years has been that if you have decent HDD's designed for servers etc then the chances of failure are actually very small and easily "dealable with".

Using a bunch of SSD's is still far too expensive -- I'm talking about a 4 Disk RAID 0 array of 20 TB --4 X 5 TB HDD's (7200 RPM with good fast cache).

It seems impossible to come up with comparable figures for RAID 0 - people all talk about "Resiliency" etc -- RAID 0 isn't for that purpose at all - designed with one thing in mind -- SPEED.

I've googled and i haven't found anything that looks like a sensible answer for small server systems --I 'm not serving zillions of clients !!- I do want to use also a WAMP (Windows, Apache,MySql/MariaDB, PHP for a web server too.

    Cheers
    jimbo

    Raid 0 help

Hi all, I've followed the IRST raid installation directions and I have created myself a Raid 0 volume. Rapid storage confirms my successful migration from a system disc to a raid 0 array. I'm also able to select it as my boot device in BIOS, but what I don't understand is why it is not listed in my Drives under my computer

In fact, my computer still lists my original C: drive with the original capacity. I feel as if I've miss an important step here and I'm unsure how to proceed.
