Chrome Internet Blocked and other browsers initial connection very slow after installing VPN

Last week I had conversation with PIA VPN support about Chrome extension, which worked well but lacked some settings options, and they suggested going to Win x64 verion instead. I installed it and found it very stable with many settings options. Two days later I had to restart Windows and upon clicking on Chrome it showed error that internet was blocked. I've spent several days trying to remedy this, includingt turning off Zone Alarm and Malwarebytes Defender is off and resetting network. Tried every recommnedation in Microsoft support. Even uninstalled PIA Win x64.

Three other Chromium browsers — Opera, Vivaldi, Edge — take 2.5 minutes to connect to internet, but are very fast after that, but I really prefer Chrome, which I've used since version 1.x. Uninstalled Chrome, deleted it's AppData folders and reinstalled I can always sync settings with Chrome on notebook, but no difference.

I'm assuming that PIA VPN x64 changed something given that I have never experienced anything like this, and I've been using Windows since version 3.x. This is a two-year-old top-of-the-line Dell XPS desktop. Dell support spend a couple hours trying to fix the issue remotely with no luck. I tried two different restores from earlier in the week but neither one actually completed install, so that option is out.

Outlook email works without issue receiving and sending very fast.

Most important, Chrome starts and runs in Safe Mode with Networking! I tried running Opera and Vivaldi in Safe Mode with Networking and both connected to internet immediately.

I need help in resetting whatever is wrong that is preventing Chrome from accessing internet and other browsers taking so long to connect.

    :)

Selectively disabling VPN software for web browsers

I am using Avira VPN. I want to disable it for Google Chrome and Firefox (in order to enjoy the maximum speed of my home internet connection) and enable it for rest of all the applications on my computer. How can I do it? I checked information on VPN tunneling on different websites and videos but couldn't find the step by step procedure to set it up for specific VPN software and browsers

  3. Slow internet connection on Chrome and Edge browser using Windows 10.

    Hello Kashyap,

Thank you for posting on Microsoft Community. We regret the inconvenience caused and will assist you in resolving the issue.

From the above description, I understand internet connection on your device is slow on Chrome and Edge browsers.

Before assisting further, I would like to ask you few questions:

    • What type of connection are you using (Wired or Wireless)?
    • Is the network speed high when using internet on other devices?

You may be facing the above issue due to the non-updated network adapter or due to the faulty network adapter device on your PC.

If you are using wireless network connection, I suggest you to check if high speed network is available on the PC using LAN cable.

If the issue persists, I suggest you to connect any other device to the network and check if similar issue persists.

Write to us with the answers to the above questions and the status of the issue on the same post for further assistance. Your reply is most important for us to ensure we assist you accordingly.

    Thank you.

Chrome Internet Blocked and other browsers initial connection very slow after installing VPN

No Internet Connection When VPN Is Connected

This particular issue has been going on for almost a month now. My companies IT department is still trying to figure out the root cause. Below is a list of isolation / troubleshooting i've done.

Issue: Once connected to the work VPN (successfully) the internet connection on the Windows 10 machine disconnects and does not allow any network traffic.

OS: Windows 10 Home - Version: 1909 (OS Build 18363.476)

    Computer: Razor Blade 2019

    - Latest drivers installed

    - Latest Windows updates installed

    - System Wide issue

    Troubleshooting / Isolation

    • Cellular Data: Verified the Windows machine can connect to a hotspot and successfully browse the internet. (No VPN involved)

    • Cellular Data + Work VPN: Verified the Windows machine can connect to the hotspot & successfully connect to work VPN and successfully browse the internet.

    • Home WiFi: Verified Windows machine can connect to the home wifi network and successfully browse the internet (No VPN involved)

    • Home WiFi + Work VPN: Verified Windows machine can connect to home WiFi. It can successfully connect to work VPN. However once the work VPN is connected, the home WiFi network indicates (No Internet Access)

    • Ping Test + Work VPN: Verified I can successfully ping (work) websites and even the work VPN URL successfully without any packet loss. However once I go to ping (non-work) related addresses like google.com, apple.com etc. there is packet loss.

At this point I decided to test my work VPN on my iPhone & Apple Mac.

    • iPhone: Home WiFi + Work VPN: Verified the iPhone successfully connects to home WiFi network and the work VPN and can successfully browse the internet.

    • Mac: Home WiFi + Work VPN: Verified the Mac successfully connects to home WiFi network and the work VPN and can successfully browse the internet.

Isolated: Only the Windows machine seems to be affected. I even verified this issue occurs on multiple Windows user accounts on the Windows 10 machine.

    - Windows 10 is fully updated to the latest November Windows 10 update and issue persists

    - Deleted and Added the VPN configuration several times and issue persisted.

Third Party VPN Client Test: Tested with Nord VPN and the Windows machine successfully connected to the home WiFi network & the Nord VPN connection successfully connected to a random server and successfully browsed the internet.

    - Disabled IPV6 on VPN & WiFi network configuration (Per IT Support guidance) and issue persisted

*Currently updating to Windows 10 Insider Preview 19033.1 (vb_release) to see if this might fix anything pertaining to Windows 10 VPN.

Thanks for any additional guidance / suggestions / help that the community offers.
