Windows 10: FileZilla users - increase concurrent number of transfers

Hi folks
Some filezilla users might not be aware of this but you can increase throughput for file transfers by changing the maximum number of concurrent transfers to 10 -- it installs 2 by default.

(The optimum number will be based on your network speed capability and also whether you are transferring a load of smallish files or large ones -- experiment by trial and error -- but use the same set of files to get a consistant result for your systems).

Go to edit-->settings>transfer





(ignore post if you already know this - I'm sure there will be another caustic comment coming from "you know who I mean" !!!)

Filezilla concurrent copying on same Host - Forget File Explorer

Compare pictures 2 and 3; although the speed is limited by "remote" hdd raid 1+0, explorer is significantly faster.

Securely in which meaning??? Extra network layers prevent disk failures or what? Please elaborate this.

A few years ago this "feature" was removed from freecommander because of speed drop. Compare pictures 1 and 2.

Some specifications:
- local data transfer speed is limited by disk subsystem; adding extra network layers & protocols can only slow it down
- using filezilla requires ftp server (configured and running) or equivalent so another attack surface is in place
- concurrent copying multiple files from/to spinning disk decreases overall throughput because of constantly moving heads
- although not in explorer, there are ways to copy ntfs permissions (xcopy, freecommander); no way over ftp in Filezilla.

No reason to use Filezilla for copying files between local disks. I really don't understand why this thread was created.

Since most files used by the newspaper are pdf or jpg and were uploaded from distant sites you can highlight
one or more Files to transfer not to just a drive but a folder with drag and drop.
with progress and failures unlike explorer a failure doesn't stop just skips the file and continues.
when transferring 100 files this is a necessity . failures can be listed so you can try again.

Hi folks

Just to remind people that if you like Filezilla (a load faster than file explorer by a mega factor) it will also much more securely copy files to HDD's / SDD's / directories on the SAME Host as well and it does concurrent transfers not just one at a time.

On the Remote site just enter sftp://localhost with username and password (or whatever your computer name is) and copy at will.

I'm currently on Linux but the GUI is identical on Windows. (For Windows the SENDING system - even if it's the same as the RECEIVING one must have openssh server enabled --it's part of Windows -just activate it from optional applications and programs).

Once you get used to this program you wont even want think of using file explorer ever again for copying large amounts of data !!!!
