    Getting Microsoft Edge Epub Functionality Back


    Yes, I know that Epub functionality was discontinued an year ago. Yes, I haven't updated my PC since then so that I can keep Edge continuing to support epub files. I was absolutely hooked to reading my books seamlessly on it.

    Since, Windows10 update decided to be ruthless and automatically start on my pc which resulted into a massive OS crash, and I had to install Windows10 all over again which came with the updated Edge browser. Since then I've been searching like a mad monkey for something as close to the edge's epub reader functionality and nothing pleases me.

    Is there a way to downgrade Edge or get the epub reading functionality back? (I cannot do a system restore since there are no other restore points from my previous OS version)

    Opening EPUB file with Edge

    Hi,

    You can read .ePub files in Microsoft Edge so long as they are not protected. The latest Windows 10 build brings EPUB file format support to Edge, allowing users to read their favorite EPUB books directly in the browser. To resolve your concern,
    we suggest that you associate the file type to Edge as well. To do this, please follow the steps below:

    • Type Control Panel in the Search bar and press Enter.
    • Type Default Programs in the Control Panel Search bar.

    • Click the Default Programs and select Associate a file type or protocol with a program option.

    • Double-click the .ePub file type.
    • Once the pop-up window shows the option, click on More apps drop down then select Edge.

    How is this helpful?

    It is not a problem for an app from Store.

    Edge comes pre installed. I am having the same problem.

    .epub files are automatically associated to be opened with a different software. I want to change it to Edge and I am not able to because Edge is not in the list. I tried changing the defaults for .epub and Edge is not an option.
