Why does Microsoft offer a palate with a rich set of shades of color if Word is just going to ignore those choices and impose some alternative that a Microsoft designer prefers?

I want Word to **remember** my color choices.

I don't know what upgrade did this, but now, after closing and reopening documents in Word 2010, I find that all the colors are faded, unsaturated or "washed out" (as one poster on the Microsoft website put it).

I make copious use of colors in documents I am redacting to code the significance of different sections, but I always use highly saturated colors because I do not have very good eyesight. These wimpy washed-out colors Word is now forcing me to use are causing eye strain for me. By canceling the brightness of the color, many colors that hitherto were distinct now just look alike. Some that were clearly distinct before look little different from standard automatic text.

Microsoft's answer to those who have complained about this problem on their website is to recommend the creation of custom color templates.

    https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/...e-49607dbdd356

There are multiple problems with this:
    • It is a huge nuisance to have to create custom templates
    • Templates allow for just a few colors, or so it appears
    • Templates do not simply set aside certain preferred colors, they completely change what is offered on the palette

Why have a palette at all if color choices the user makes are meaningless?? This is completely nuts. Some "artist" on staff at Microsoft recommended a change with huge unexpected consequences. Maybe, say, red #1 goes together with blue #1, according to their "expert designer", but then by skewing the user's choices towards using blue#1 with red #1 the entire palette changes!!!

Can anyone tell me what I need to uninstall or what patch I need to get rid of this awful paternalistic imposition from Microsoft's art staff?

Or if a fix is unavailable, I'd like to know if there is a version of Word I can purchase that will respect (not change) my color choices.

    :)

Awful washed out colors in Windows 10. Happens intermittently

I wonder why nobody has suggested the OP to make a screenshot of display showing these "washed out colors"? Everything I have read in this thread suggests that the issue is not in Windows, but instead in display / monitor.

My suggestion: next time you'll see these washed out colors, make a screenshot and post it here. If the screenshot shows us that colors are OK, then the issue is your monitor failing.
