Windows 10: User Accounts

Hi all, I recently upgraded my computer and used a USB memory stick to install windows. During the set up process, my internet connection was not recognised so I had to set up a local account. I then went to sign in with a microsoft account instead, but this still left the local account, and whenever I started my computer it was defaulting to this account.


I have tried converting back to a local account and adding my microsoft account manually via netplwiz, but this has meant that from the login screen, when I select my microsoft account, there is no option to sign in. I have tried re-installing windows whilst plugged into the internet connection I am using now, but it still didnt recognise my internet connection, so I believe that the LAN drivers for my motherboard can't be installed until after Windows.


I have never had this happen before, does anyone have any ideas ho I can resolve this so I have my microsoft account as the only user?

Remove account

I suggest you backup your personalized files first before removing the account.
To delete an account, follow these steps:

1. Press WIN + X keys and click Command Prompt (Admin) from the menu.
2. Type the following command and press Enter. Replace test with the name of your sister's account. Code:

 

I can't rename my user account

  Are you using a Microsoft account or local account?
  

If you are using local account, I suggest you to follow the below steps to change the user name.

Please follow the steps to rename the user account in Windows 10.

a. In the search box, type user accounts and click on User Accounts.

b. Click on “Change your account name”

c. If it’s prompting for password please enter and click on Yes. If you do not have password click on Yes.

d. Enter the new user name.

e. Click on change name.

removing user account

I would suggest you to follow the below steps and check if it helps.

• Press Windows + X keys, select Control Panel.
• Select User accounts.
• Select Manage other accounts.
• Double click on the account you want to delete and select
  Delete the account.
• Follow the instructions and check if it helps.
