Windows 10: I cannot type into my Windows 10 search bar.

The title really says it all. I tried multiple methods, including the powershell and cmd promt commands. none of them seem to help. I've also tried running the sfc scan multiple times, to no end.

The Powershell command

Get-AppXPackage -AllUsers Where-Object {$_.InstallLocation -like "*SystemApps*"} Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register "$$_.InstallLocation\AppXManifest.xml"}

yields the following error:


Add-AppxPackage : Deployment failed with HRESULT: 0x80073D02, The package could not be installed because resources it modifies are currently in use. error 0x80073D02: Unable to install because the following apps need to be closed

MicrosoftWindows.Client.CBS_120.2212.31.0_x64__cw5n1h2txyewy.

And the following command :

$manifest = Get-AppxPackage Microsoft.WindowsStore.InstallLocation + '\AppxManifest.xml' ; Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register $manifest

yields no error, but also displays no completion message, nor does it fix my problem.

If you meant the Cortana search bar, review the suggested solutions on these threads:

This can be caused by corrupted system files. To help resolve the issue, we suggest following the steps provided by Abdul_Malik in this
thread that was found helpful in resolving the same issue. After doing so, try using
the search bar and see if you can type anything on it.

Search bar stuck while trying to type in the search bar

We would like to know more information regarding your concern so that we will know why the search bar is not working. Have you recently made any changes/updates prior to this issue?

Did you run the troubleshooter to rebuild the indexing? If not, I would suggest that you run the troubleshooter to fix common indexing issue. You can run the troubleshooter by performing these steps:

• Press the Windows key on your keyboard and type
  Troubleshoot.
• Choose Troubleshoot in the results.
• Under Find and fix other problems highlight
  Search and Indexing then click Run the troubleshooter.
