Windows 10: Can't load software because I'm not the Administrator, just the owner

My Laptop (HP) is about 5 months old but somewhere I got a bad infection and couldn't do anything with it. Even though it was under warentry HP refused to fix it saying that I had tampered with the hard drive in some way they weren't sure off. But refused to fix it and returned it.

So I changed the Hard drive with an identical one and installed a genuine copy of windows 10 O/S.

I installed a few bits and pieces like Winrar and Foxit reader along with Norton security. All went well until I installed The Graphics Creator software. ( I talked to the owner Marc and he asures me theres nothing wrong with the software because hundreds of thousands of other customers had installed the latest version without any trouble) The main product loaded OK but when I came to load the add ons that came with the main program I kept getting the same warning:

Error creating directoryC:\Users\Mike\Documents/laughingbirdDocuments/Purchased Designs/Motion Graphics TemplatesAccess is denide.Installation cannot continue. Log in as administrator or contact your system administrator

Damit all I am the administrator after all as its my laptop and no one else uses it.

I'm not sure how to fix this but I'm am sure someone here can help.

Settings can't be opened using the built-in administrator account

Unfortunately I have the same issue as Dabz from upgrading win7 to win10.
I've tried opening settings using all the suggested methods and it will not load using my account with Administrator access nor the built-in Administrator profile. I also tried other methods not listed such as using Run. Control panel is just a stepping stone to add users in Settings.
I'm also having explorer.exe issues, which I believe is preventing Settings from loading.
Using cmd (Admin) I successfully created a new user profile [and granted admin access also using cmd (Admin)], however win10 will not allow this account to log on. win10 does not list this new user within control panel but it does in the start menu. win10 will not allow to log in or switch to the new account via the start menu either.
I can access settings in Safe Mode but this will not allow me to create a new account.
Any help/suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Would like to change from owner to administrator

Greetings Ladies and Gentlemen, I would like to change from owner to administrator. Under control panel, user account, user account, manage account, change account, change account type. Under all that is "Choose a new account type for owner ." I am listed
as administrator. But at sign in at start up I listed as owner. As well in Power Shell ISE How I do change that ? Thank you

Hi Bree, thanks for stepping up to address this issue.
As far as I know my External Drive has only been used on my PC.

I could try to implement your suggestion and take Ownership of those Folders.
The "Take Ownership" link is present in my right click menu, but I'm currently logged in with my Microsoft account, so perhaps it would be better if I went Properties --> Security --> Advanced & set the Owner to Administrators, no?!

Although my mind is bugged with a new question now.
If I change the Owner & later on I have to restore a backup (Acronis on a CD) won't I encounter problems then?
