Laptop has a new owner: How to change Administrator file locations

Hello, can someone help? I was given a Windows 10 laptop where the previous owner/administrator "John" has, of course, all "my documents" files under c:/users/john/.... (There is no password to start the system, only a "Welcome John" windows and OK button.)
How can I change the system so it greets *me* upon startup, and change administrator name/file location/ so that it reads c:/users/myname/... ?
I know I can add myself as a new user, and give myself administrator access, but then how can I get rid of the /john/ path, files, and welcome window?
I hope the question makes sense. Thanks in advance.

    :)

as administrator. But at sign in at start up I listed as owner. As well in Power Shell ISE How I do change that ? Thank you

Excel changes the owner of file during save

I just duplicated the problem with a brand new Excel file that had nothing to do with the old XP machine ...
    • Signed in as the original owner who is in the administrator group
    • Created a new Excel file in the same folder as above
    • Edited the file with Excel as the original owner ... saved
    • Checked ownership and permissions. Everything looks OK, including the inherited permissions from the folder
    • Signed off
    • Signed on as a second user who is not in the Administrator group
    • Edited the the file with Excel as the second user ... saved the file with changes
    • Signed off
    • Signed on as the original owner
    • Checked ownership and permissions. The ownership of the file has changed to the second user.

The original and second users are the exact same users described in the post above. Uggghhh ...

  4. Laptop has a new owner: How to change Administrator file locations

Trying to move files and asks for administrator

    Hi Paul,

This is normal when when moving files that may affect some applications or prevent the system from working properly, like moving files in and out of
Program Files folder. To prevent this from happening, you can follow these steps:

Step 1: Take the ownership of a file or folder

    1. Open Windows Explorer and locate the file/folder, right-click on it and select
      Properties.
    2. Go to Security and click Advanced, go to Owner tab and click Edit. If you want to change the owner to a user or group that is not listed, click
Other user and groups, and type the name of the user or group in
Enter the object name to select, then click
      OK
. If you want to change a user or a group that is listed, click new owner in the Change owner
to box. If you want to change the owner of all subcontainers and objects within the tree, select
Replace owner on subcontainers and objects box.

Step 2: Turn off UAC or User Account Control

    1. Press Windows + X
    2. and click Control Panel.Select Large icons that are on the right panel under View.
    3. Locate and click on User Account, click Change User Accounts Control Settings.
    4. Change to Never notify.
    5. Once you complete the process, change the slider to Notify me only when programs try to make changes to my computer.

Step 3: Enable the built-in administrator account

    1. Press Windows + X and click Command Prompt (Admin).
    2. Type net user administrator /active:yes and hit Enter.

After this, you can continue to try copy files without admin permission or admin rights without any problems by then.

Let us know how it goes.
