  1. OneDrive issue when replacing my HDD

I was getting. warnings about my HDD performance and decided to upgrade my 2TB to a 4TB HDD non-boot D: drive. This was an issue in itself as going from MBR to GPT, I could not clone the drive. I manually copied the relevant folders to the new drive all except for my ONEDRIVE folder.

I replace the drive letters on the two drives and the new HDD fired up as I have MyDocuments and OneDrive linked to the D: Drive.

My assumption was that OneDrive would recognize that the OneDrive folder was missing and prompt me with instructions or simply re-create the folder. Instead, I found that the folder was re-created but only contained a very small subset of my 500+ GB of information and when I went to my online OneDrive, I had thousands of files in my recycle bin. I recognize that OneDrive takes time to sync so I left everything overnight and the next day, I was in a similar situation. I then went into the online recycle bin and indicated that EVERYTHING needs to be restored. That was 24 hours ago and I am at 250GB of data which seems to fluctuate up and down and I'm still missing information from my OneDrive. There are more items in my recycle bin that were put there at 6:30 am while I was sleeping and I'm aware that OneDrive has an option to go back in time by essentially reversing all the activity that's occurred since a certain point. I also have OneDrive linked to my laptop that I've since unlinked as I think when I turned the laptop on, it delivered confusing instructions to OneDrive as well.

As it stands, my online OneDrive as about 50% of my files and it is not accurately synced with my new HDD which has about 5% of my files noted. The files structures are similar but incomplete with folders that are empty or personal records that will have some years but not others. My information is somewhere jumbled in OneDrive and I'm not clear on how to get it back. Do I unlink my PC as well and only work through this online, why does Ondrive say I'm synced, but I'm not. Do I push the button to go back two days, but how will that work with all the deletion of thousands of files and a restore instruction from the recycle bin that seems to have partially worked.

HELP - I'm at a bit of a loss as OneDrive was suppose to protect me from losing my data. Perhaps I should have copied the OneDrive from one HDD to the other before changing my drive letters, but this is where I'm at and need some direction on what I should do next.

    Thanks

    Bill

    :)

  2. Windows 10 - OneDrive

Right click on the app and one of the properties has an option to not automatically start it. Uncheck, restart the computer, and it should stop. If you want to go another step further, find the OneDrive app in the start menu, right click on it and uninstall.

If that is still insufficient, there is a batch uninstaller for OneDrive available online. I can copy the code here if you need it.

    Hi Johan,

    It is possible that your
    HDD was unreadable
causing the error message to appear. We recommend that you perform these troubleshooting steps and check if there are any changes:

    • Shutdown
      your
      PC.

    • Unhooked
      the
      HDD
      and
      turn on
      your
      PC.

    • Reconnect
      your
      HDD
      and
      restart
      your
      PC.

If the issue persists, we suggest that you contact your
    laptop/computer's manufacturer
    for further assistance.

Update us on how it goes.

    Regards.
