Windows 10: Windows 10 and hard drive larger than 2 TB

I installed a 4 Tb hard drive on a HP computer. Windows Professional, 64-bit.


It works fine, but leave me with a 2 Tb unallocated section.


I tried twice to change from MBR to GTP, and both times it failed to boot and I had to reinstall windows each time.


I can't use the Disk Manager to make the unallocated space about 1.6 Tb available or to format it,


There are a lot of proposed solutions on the web. but none seem to work.

Hello,

Support for hard drives larger than 2 TB requires several features in your computer.

Please look at this article:

It may be because your system is formatted as MBR, which means it can't recognise drives over 2tb properly. To overcome this, either use GPT or make two 2tb partitions on the 4tb hard drive.

Cannot view area/data of hard drive above 2 TB of 4 TB hard drive


I have installed my cloned Western Digital Black 2 TB hard drive and booted up as sole drive and all went well. I then shut down my PC and disconnected the Western Digital Black 2 TB hard drive and I then reconnected my Western Digital Black 4 TB hard drive and then I converted this drive to GPT from MBR. I shut down my PC again and reconnected my Western Digital Black 2 TB hard drive, restarted and then went into my PC BIOS and set this drive as the primary boot device. I still cannot access any of the data in the just under 1700 GB partion of Disk 1. I started to assign a drive letter to this partion but a reformat was asked for, so I backed off from that option. What steps next should I take? Thank to All

 

Replace present C drive with larger 2 Tb drive

My C drive is only 118 Gb. with 23.8 Gb free space. I have a 2 Tb. external Hard drive that I would like to make my C drive with Macrium Reflect image back-up on the 2Tb disk. Should I proceed with putting the 2 Tb Hd in the place of my existing C drive & boot with the boot disk I made with the Reflect software. I’ve never attempted this before. Would it be legal to replace the present C drive for the much larger 2Tb drive.
