crashing taskbar and hanging on restarts

So I've been having this really weird problem lately. Often I want to use my PC, it boots up just fine, it logs in and then when it has logged in it only shows me a taskbar that seems to be constantly crashing. It doesn't show my background and it won't let me focus on any object for even a second before it takes off the focus for some reason. I am able to use shortcuts for opening the taskbar and starting programs, but not much else. Other times it will boot up just fine and it's usable. I figured at some point that a cheap displayport to hdmi adapter I ordered online might be the culprit, and after removing the adapter and the display it was connected to it stopped for a while... but now it's back. I also have this strange problem where I cant shutdown without a problem and boot it up again, but when I try to hit restart it just stays on the restarting screen forever until I forcefully turn it off.

Is there anyone here who has experienced this problem before or who knows what could cause this? I'm dying to get this fixed because my main PC is pretty much unusable now.

    :)

  2. HD 2600XT Hangs and Crashes

I can probably play cod4 or any other game really for about 45-60 minutes before my system hangs and my card crashes and my screen goes blank, i know its only my card because my system doesnt restart, my card fan stops running on full from its riva override, and soon thereafter my screen comes back on in 800x600 and i cant access the card's drivers to change the res or anything, so when it hangs and crashes i just resort to manually restarting.

one thing i think i could try is to bite the bit and install the latest drivers, i've been holding off on that.

but if there's anything else anyone can think of, or if someone has had the same problem as me. go for it and give me some suggestions.

in before buy the 4870. (already on my wish list)

  3. taskbar tranparency

    Hi Dan,

Thank you for posting your query in Microsoft Community.

Sorry for the inconvenience caused. I will surely assist you with this.

I would suggest you to change the desktop themes and check if you are able to see the transparent taskbar.

If that doesn't help I would suggest you to end the explorer.exe and restart it and see if you are able to see the transparent taskbar.

Please follow the steps below to restart explorer.exe:

    stop and start Explorer.exe

      • Right click on the taskbar and select task manager.

      • In the process Right click on windows explorer and end the task

      • Restart the task by clicking on the file and select new task

      • Type Explorer.exe and press enter.
    And see if it helps.

Do let us know the result. We will be glad to help if you need further assistance.

crashing taskbar and hanging on restarts

Taskbar hangs and restarts when clicked

Hi there! I am Louie, a Microsoft Community member and a fellow Windows 10 user like you. Hope you're doing well and safe there.

I have something here for you that might help fix the problem. You may follow this steps:

    Method 1: Use Powershell

Use the Powershell command to unfreeze the frozen taskbar by following the steps below:

    1. Press and hold the Windows logo key + R.

    2. Type powershell in the Run dialog box.

    3. Hit Enter.

    4. Type the following command line: Get-AppXPackage -AllUsers | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register “$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml”}.

    5. Hit Enter.

Take note that you have to enable the Windows Firewall before performing the task above. Here are the steps on how to check if the Windows Firewall was enabled:

    1. Open Task Manager.

    2. Click More Details.

    3. Select the Services tab.

    4. Make sure that MpsSvc, also described as Windows Firewall, is running.

Method 2: Enable the User Manager.

A disabled User Manager sometimes results in a frozen Windows taskbar. To re-enable the User Manager, follow these steps:

    1. Press and hold Windows logo key + R.

    2. Type services.msc.

    3. Double-click the User Manager.

    4. Set the Startup type to Automatic.

    5. Hit OK.

    6. Restart the computer.

Method 3: Disable Recently Opened Items.

Disabling the recently opened items helps to speed up the list launch. To disable items that are recently opened, follow the instruction below:

    1. Go to Settings.

    2. Select Personalization.

    3. Click Start.

    4. Slide the toggle button beside Show recently opened items in Jump Lists on Star or the taskbar to turn it off.

Hope one of this steps works

    Sincerely,

    Louie
