Windows 10: Lost header & page number formatting

In moving document file from 365 which is supposed to be windows 10 in old computer to new computer windows 10 headers and page numbers lost. Have tried everything to recreate on new computer to no avail. Followed Insert>Page Number procedure--won't insert. Please help, I'm at wits end!

What product are you using, sounds like Word, which year.

Not sure what year you are using, here are instructions for 2013.

Could I suggest you start a new document, make it simple a word on each page, say three pages long. Then in Word 2013, which would be like 2016, click on Insert along the top, then page number, then bottom of page. There should be page numbers on all pages. Is there?

The ribbon should change to Header Footer Tools, then click Page number and then Format page number and choose start on page 2. Did this work.?

If the above worked then there is formatting within your current doc that is restricting pages. If it didn't work then I would suggest there is something corrupt within your app.

This is the 'fix' from my son.

Section Breaks are the right way to do the page numbering starting from a defined page.
Insert a Section Break and click into the header or footer space.
There are two key labels to look out for depending on which version of Word you are running.
1. Create a document and bang a few carriage returns in. Insert a Section Break.
2. On the second page, click into the header space and immediately after the section break in the header section you may see Section2-Header-First-Page or similar. If you insert the page number at the end of this 'first' page, you won't see the page number entered on the third page. If you put in a few carriage returns and a Page Break, you'll see in the header section of the third page something like Section2-Header. You will need to insert a page number field on this page as well. This will then carry page numbering on through the document.
3. The second label to look out for is the ‘Same as Previous’ in the header and footer areas. Highlighting these and de-selecting the option in the ribbon menu at the top of the screen seems to stop Word being ‘clever’ and trying to carry your numbering formatting up and down the document. It’s important to note that this menu option appears only when you are editing within the header or footer areas.

Run CMD


1. diskpart
2. list disk

Then in the 3º step, put the correct number of disk in the list for the usb flash (if it's listed in disk 3, then you'll have to write select disk 3).

2. select disk #
3. clean
4. create partition primary
5. select partition 1
6. active
7. format fs=fat32
8. assign
9. exit

with that commands you will format the flash drive in fat32, if you have a large drive you can select also "format fs=ntfs" in step 7.
