  1. WindowsApp Folder on F drive can not be set a app installation location.

When I try to set my F drive as the default install location for apps, I get an error saying "This drive has apps from another device. To use this drive, the other apps must first be deleted. Do you want to continue?"
After clicking Yes I get a new error saying "The operation did not complete successfully. Try again in a bit. The error code is 0x80070005, in case you need it."

I turned on view hidden folders, gave myself ownership of the folder so I can open it, with the intention of manually cleaning it.
But when I try to open the folder, File Explorer becomes unresponsive, and then crashes and crashes my desktop with it.

When I look at the folder's properties it says it's about 60GB, but when I go to delete it, the deletion tool shows its scanning files and quickly surpasses 150GB. I have stopped it while in the scanning phase as I dont know where all this info its see is.

Would it be safe to delete this folder? I had to reset my windows recently and many stuff were not properly deleted. So I have hundreds of Gigs be used but with no programs that can still access them. So I have been going through finding stuff and deleting them.

    :)

  2. Can't change Windows Store install location because of old WindowsApps folder on the drive.

I'm attempting to change my default download location for Windows Store to my F: drive because it's a 2 TB drive, but I can't because there's an old WindowsApp folder on there from a previous Windows install that refuses to be deleted.

When I attempt to change the download location, I first get this message:

WindowsApp Folder on F drive can not be set a app installation location. 672dbbf9-7220-43c7-97be-1b5d308b9c6a?upload=true.png

When I click Yes, I'm then greeted by this message:

WindowsApp Folder on F drive can not be set a app installation location. 461e3d48-18d5-487b-839e-075b07b210fa?upload=true.png

I've attempted to manually give myself permission of the folder in order to delete it, but I still get an error saying that I need permission from (computer name)/brian.

This is particularly frustrating because I just bought Resident Evil 7 Gold Edition today and was able to install the base game and one of the DLCs on F:, but the other 2 DLCs gave me an error message saying that they must be installed on the system drive.

There really needs to be some kind of tool that can be used to force delete WindowsApp folders. I'm out of ideas. Any suggestions?

  3. Unable to delete windowsapps folders created after changing location of microsoft app installation.

Do exactly these steps. UI based take ownership seems to have some issues.

    1. Admin cmd prompt to take ownership - (takeown /f WindowsApps /r /d y)
    2. Go to advanced perms on folder.
    a. Disable inheritance (recursively).
    b. Remove each user/account from access list one at a time, leave active MSA owner with full perms.
    3. rd /s

WindowsApp Folder on F drive can not be set a app installation location.

"D:\WindowsApps\Deleted" empty folder and lost apps installed on the D: drive

    Expected:

    Getting back ms store apps

    Happening:

Under "D:\WindowsApps\" there's an empty "deleted" folder

    Steps to reproduce it:

    Have Windows 10 1803

Have in storage settings the "store apps in" set to the D: drive

Have a ms store app installed on the D: drive(In my case Rise Of The Tomb Raider)

    Upgrade to Windows 10 1809

It should miss the app in the start menu

In ms store-> download the app

Downloads a few KB and shows the app again in the start menu, and you can use it normally

Refresh windows but without removing personal file(because I had troubles with internet access that I wasn't able to fix)

    Wait it to reinstall windows

Look with administrator cmd dir command inside "D:\WindowsApps\" and you should see "appname_xyz" folder with inside all its data.

Change again the storage option to the D: drive (It was resetted by the refresh)

Reinstall the app from ms store to show it in start

You should now see that it will start downloading the app again (33 GB)

    Stop the download

Check again with administrator cmd with dir inside "D:\WindowsApps\" and you should see a "deleted" folder of 0 bytes and the "appname_xyz" missing

    Question

Is there a way to get back the "appname_xyz" folder with its data or it's too late? Also in case I should reinstall the app, which is paid and has a max of 10 pcs to be installed on, does it count as a new pc?
