  1. The working of Windows 10 Update Assistant

Microsoft has been releasing new versions of the Windows 10 Update Assistant for quite a while now, which helps Windows users to install feature updates. This app is updated with feature updates and provides a very efficient and reliable way of installing them if Windows Update does not prompt the user to install feature updates. This article describes how it works if you're interested and has a bonus tip if you are that kind of a person who cannot wait to try new features post-release.

So, when you download the Windows 10 Update Assistant, it downloads approximately a 5 MB file, which, after running, creates a folder in the C drive named "Windows10Upgrade", which has all the required files and the app itself. After it is run, it contacts the Microsoft servers to check for the latest version and sees if your version of Windows 10 is the latest and in some cases even checks your hardware to make sure that everything is compatible. After that, it makes sure that you have enough drive space so that the update could be installed. After it contacts the Microsoft servers, it creates a file named "products.xml" in the Windows10Upgrade folder which has the links to the required files. It then starts to download a file in the ESD format. If you want, you can copy the name of the ESD present in the Windows10Upgrade folder, open up the products.xml file, find it and then copy the download link and download it, place it in the Windows10Upgrade folder and then run the "Windows10UpgraderApp.exe" file in the same folder. Note that these files are edition and version-specific. If you have used the Media Creation Tool, you might have noticed that the downloaded file just ranges from 2.9 to 3.1 GB in size rather than the standard 3.8 GB or 4.6 GB size format. This is because first this tool downloads only the required files for your version and acts more like Windows Update than the Media Creation Tool and second, the file format is ESD, which is more compressed than an ISO, the current standard for Windows installation files. After downloading and verifying the ESD SHA-1 is also included in the products.xml file, it starts installing the update. If the storage falls short during the installation process, it typically asks the user to attach an external storage device with at least 10 GB of free space but the required space is relative. Also, if the space falls short during the installation of the update, you might see the typical "Installing Windows 10" screen. Don't worry, it is normal. If the space falls short, it really does launch the setup. And before installing, it extracts the ESD file too. Then it goes through the standard feature update installation process.

The Update Assistant is more efficient than the Media Creation Tool, but if you want to get the latest feature update without using this toolas soon as it is available for your device, here is a tip:- Just make sure that you have installed the October 2020 patch or the patch Tuesday update of October.

    Windows 10 Tweaks

Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

    • Open a new Explorer window.
    • Click View in the ribbon.
    • Click Options.
    • Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
    • Click OK
