Flakey WI-FI - No Idea Why

    Hello,
I'm with a UK broadband ISP called TalkTalk - not through choice, but if you want FTTC, they were the only provider in town...literally.
We also have an Amazon Firestick (wi-fi) which we cannot use due to insufficient signal - our Samsung SMART TV is cat5e cabled. But, we also have YouTube issues when using the TV built-in apps.
We also have Spotify - which regularly loses Wi-fi connection during songs played via Sonos speakers. Same goes for our Asus laptop on wi-fi. All these items are on the ground floor of our small cottage.
Our main PC's are upstairs next to the router (Sagemcom Fast 5364), aslo (laughingly I guess) called the TalkTalk Wi-Fi Hub due to its superior wi-fi performance.
For years we had no problems at all - then just after we were 'upgraded' to this hub (and the Winter storms arrived in Autumn). Since then it seems to have been a steady downhill slide. Previously we had several Huawai routers e.g. HG633 & HG635 routers - no sign of a problem (apart from the Manufacturer being Chinese).

Before I engage with TalkTalk I would like to confirm my pc is working OK. File Explorer is suggesting to me ( I am largely computer illiterate) that all is not well. I'll attach a few screen captures by way of explanation:

I also tried to Map a Network drive to my Synology NAS & got this:

I was following an instruction in an old thread (from NavyLCDR - and he knows his stuff) - when I got the error & even I could guess all was not well in the Network!
So, before attempting to tackle TalkTalk (always a blood-pressure risk) I'd like to confirm my PC/network/router setup is at least fairly normal. But of course I need the help of Ten Forums!! as I am metaphorically & literally lost as far as computers are concerned.

    Best,
    Mike

    :)

  2. Trouble Changing Wi-Fi Password

I've been following the following steps to change my Wi-Fi password for some time:

    1. Launch Control Panel.
    2. Click "Network and Internet."
    3. Click "Network and Sharing Center."
    4. Click "Wi-Fi...."
    5. Click "Wireless Properties."
    6. Click the Security tab.
    7. Check "Show characters."
    8. Enter the password in "Network security key."
Those steps have been working just fine, but today I discovered a new wrinkle. If I change the password inside the router first, "Wi-Fi..." doesn't appear in step 4. This isn't much of a problem at home, because I can just change the password in Control Panel before I change it inside the router, but it would be a problem at a public hotspot, or something of that nature. I also tested Brink's instructions in "How to Connect To a Wireless Network in Windows 10," but they don't work for me either. How can I fix this?

After windows 1903 update I don't have any wi fi connection or icon showing and have tried many suggestions on how to get it, but none have worked.

Can you provide a step by step instruction on how to get wi fi icon and network.

    Windows 10 and no wi-fi

    Hi Joachim,

Thank you for posting your query in Microsoft Community. Appreciate your interest in using Windows 10.

I would suggest you to follow the methods below:

Method 1: Run the Hardware and Device troubleshooter by following the steps below:

    • Click on the Start button, and type “Troubleshooting” on the search bar.
    • Click on troubleshooting, then click on “Hardware and sound”.
    • Under Hardware and sound, click on “hardware and devices”.
    • A pop-up will appear, click on the “Next” button and your hardware troubleshooting will start.

Method 2: The issue may occur if the drivers for Wi-fi are not installed or updated. I suggest you to install/update the latest version for Wi-fi drivers by following the steps below.

    • Press ‘windows key + R’ and type ‘devmgmt.msc’ and press Enter.
    • Expand ‘Network adapter’ and right click on Wi-fi driver and select update.
