Windows 10: Norton Security (Comcast) firewall gets turned off, can't reset it ON

    Norton Security (Comcast) firewall gets turned off, can't reset it ON


    The Smart Firewall part of Norton Internet Security (Comcast) is turned off and the Settings window for the firewall is all greyed out. I can't even move the scroll bar.

    I uninstalled and reinstalled NIS. At first, the firewall was active, but then it became inactive again. Norton Support is no help. Any suggestions, short of nuking my Windows install?

    I think Windows Defender (WD) is better than Norton but others may have different opinions.

    Since Norton will not reenable see the following:

    If you have a paid subscription to Norton and wish to continue to use Norton for antivirus protection on your Win 10 computer, I suggest you be sure you have your product key, uninstall Norton, reboot, run the Norton Removal Tool, reboot, reinstall Norton
    and Norton should be working again. See List of
    anti-malware product removal tools

    If necessary, you may need to seek advice/assistance from Norton.

    If you want to use Windows Defender for antivirus protection, suggest you uninstall Norton, reboot, run the Norton Removal Tool and reboot again. That should remove any remnants of Norton that might interfere with WD.

    Can't turn on Norton Security

    Hi Mary,

    Sorry about that! May I know if you are able to launch your Norton Security? If so, run live update until you get the message "No updates available" and the restart your computer and check if the firewall is turned ON. If you still see the issue with Firewall,
    download Norton removal tool from here www.norton.com/nrt to completely uninstall Norton from your computer and then follow the instructions here www.norton.com/install to reinstall it. Let us know if this helps.
