Windows 10: How to access not visible card readers in Windows 10?

Hi All,


I have five card readers mounted in the computer cabinett. Having done a fresh install of Windows 10 the card readers are not visible in the file explorer. Normally that is a good thing as I never use them. However, I also noticed that Windows 10 has allocated disk letters to each of the drives.


How can access and I change the assigned drive letter to a card reader that isn't visible?

Hi Sam,

To isolate this concern, have you tried adding the card reader to folder as the source file in Photo app? If no, please add it by following the steps below:

• Open Photo app.
• Go to Settings.
• Click Add a folder under Sources.
• Choose the card reader folder.
• Click Add this folder to Pictures.

Once done, please check if you can now access the card reader photos.

I apologize for not addressing you in a timely manner. Let me help you in resolving the issue.

I suggest you to follow the methods below and check if that resolves the issue.

Method 1: Run the Hardware troubleshooter and check.

Follow the steps to run the troubleshooter:

a. Type Troubleshooting and click Troubleshooting under
Settings.

b. Now type Hardware Troubleshooter in the search option.

c. Click on Hardware troubleshooter to run the troubleshooter.

Method 2: Update the Card Reader Driver:

Follow these steps to update the driver.

a) Press Windows key + X key and click on Device manager.

b) Search for the Card Reader Driver and expand it.

c) Right click on the driver and select Update Driver Software.

Go to Device Manger and check if the SD card shows up. Steps to go to Device manager.

  Search for USB Port and expand it.
  
• 
  Check if it’s visible there.

Unable to access Compact flash card reader on Windows 10

Do let us know the following to assist you better with accessing the Card reader:

• Were you able to see if the device is detected/recognized in Device Manager?
• What is the status of the drive in Device Manager?
• What is the complete make and model of your devices?

Try the below troubleshooting steps and check if it helps.

Step 1: If the device is not detected on your computer try to run Hardware and Devices troubleshooter.

Hardware and Devices troubleshooter
checks for common problems and makes sure that any new device or hardware connected to your PC is installed correctly.

  Press Windows
  key from the keyboard, type Troubleshooting and select it.

  Click on view all option on the upper left corner of
  Troubleshooting window.

  Select the Hardware and Device
  options from the list.
  
• 
  Click Next to run the

  Also, try connecting the device to different ports.
  

Step 2: I suggest you to check for the pending updates on your computer.

Steps:

• Connect to the internet.
• Press Windows key and type
  updates.
• Click on Check for updates.
• Under Windows Updates, click on
  Check for updates.
• Try to install the updates being shown.
