battery not charging on my hp notebook

    Hi,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

I see that your laptop’s battery is not charging. We would like to know, if you get a message stating plugged in not charging when hovering the mouse over the battery icon.

If you see the message plugged in not charging, I suggest you to refer the troubleshooting steps mentioned below and see if that helps:

    1. Press Windows Logo key + X, and select
      Device Manager.
    2. Expand Battery.
    3. Right click on Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery, and select
      Uninstall.
    4. Click OK to confirm.
    5. Restart the computer.

You may also want to look at the troubleshooting steps mentioned in the HP articles

Notebook battery not charging when switched on

    Hi all,
I bought a notebook three weeks ago for my wife, specifically a HP 14-an009a. It had Windows 10 pre-installed. It worked perfectly for a couple of weeks, but an issue has cropped up with the battery. When it is turned on and connected to the charger, the battery icon will say "37% available, plugged in, not charging". The actual percentage does vary, depending on use. I have tried all the various fixes (e.g. "Uninstall/reinstall Microsoft acpi-compliant control method battery" in the device manager and battery out/in, run off AC only then plug battery back in, etc), amongst others, but to no avail. The notebook will charge perfectly when it is switched off, however, with the little orange light on the side illuminating. It will turn white, however, when the machine is turned on (but not charging with the AC connected). Obviously, there have been several updates (including the big "anniversary one) since the purchase. Does anyone have any ideas how to rectify this? The battery is OK, and the charger works fine. There is no HP power control software/bloatware on the notebook either which could be causing this. I have changed power plans, and everything that I know of! I can only assume that the battery control driver (after an update) is overriding the charging when the notebook is turned on. Does anyone else have this issue? Please help.

Battery is draining so fast after yesterday update, please help me

    Hello,

On some occasions, Windows Update may change your custom settings. For example, your Power plan may be changed to High Performance instead of Power saver. Not only that but also related to brightness or display settings, but covers a lot of advanced power
options that impact battery life drastically. To resolve your issue we suggest that you retrieve your old settings before moving on with additional steps. Here are the steps:

    • Right-click on Battery icon in the Notification area and open Power Options.
    • Now, you can select either Balanced or Power saver plan.
    • Select one and open Change plan settings.
    • Click on Restore default settings for this plan.
    • When prompted, click Yes and that should restore your settings to default.

In addition, you may also change the Advanced power settings to decrease battery drainage.
