can't upgrade to 1903 - now Nvidia driver gets DPC_WATCHDOG_VIOLATION BSOD

I've had 1803 for a very long time and it never was able to successfully upgrade to 1903.

    The error was

Installation Failure: Windows failed to install the following update with error 0xC1900101: Feature update to Windows 10, version 1903.

The most recent Windows update now causes my machine to get DPC_WATCHDOG_VIOLATION. I found that if I unplug my monitor from NVidia GT 710, the error and BSOD goes away. I tried removing and reinstalling the MIcrosoft recommended driver and the BSOD came back.

So I removed the driver and have plugged into the builtin DVI port, so I only get 1980x1080, instead of 4K resolution.

So is there a way to force the upgrade to 1903? If I do will that resolve the DPC_WATCHDOG_VIOLATION BSOD?

    Any other suggestions?

    Thanks very much!

    :)

  2. BSOD DPC_Watchdog_Violation daily

Those steps are not relevant to me. In those steps it asks to check the IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers for iastore.sys in the listed drivers.

I do not have iastore as a driver nor is that the files causing the BSOD.

The driver that is causing it (I got this from BlueScreenView) is nvstore.sys which is listed as the driver for three identical items in 'storage controllers' There are 4 items there. 3 of them are called NVIDIA nForce Serial ATA Controller. Those three
all list this nvstore.sys as their driver.

I suspect that if I could replace or fix that driver it would solve the issue based on the advice given by Annanya. Does that sound right? If so, how would I go about it?

    Daily BSOD (DPC_WATCHDOG_VIOLATION): ntoskrnl.exe? nvstor.sys?

Hi valihrach - thanks! In that post, you say:

NVidia nForce SATA controller driver (nvstor.sys or nvraid.sys) can be replaced by Standard Dual-channel IDE controller driver (atapi.sys) included in Windows.

How do I do this? I want to make sure I follow accurate steps. Do I uninstall the NVIDIA nForce Serial ATA Controller in Device Manager, and then just reboot and let Windows do its thing? Or do I need to manually replace it with the Standard Dual-channel IDE controller driver (atapi.sys)? If so, how?

    Thanks for the help!

  4. can't upgrade to 1903 - now Nvidia driver gets DPC_WATCHDOG_VIOLATION BSOD

Windows 10 - NVIDIA Driver keeps updating and lets to BSOD

I was having trouble installing Windows 10 (upgrading from 8.1 and getting a BSOD every time, error code Video_Memory_Management_Internal), and I was finally able to upgrade only after I completely removed every NVIDIA file from my computer. As an fyi,
I had installed the latest 353.62 driver, but that crashed as well.

Now I boot into Windows 10, but Windows Update continues to install the NVIDIA driver and then after the computer reboots I get the same BSOD. I either want Windows to stop installing the NVIDIA drivers (leaving the 640M card dormant) or to figure out why
the driver crashes my computer every time. I tried the Microsoft tool to hide updates, but the NVIDIA driver does not appear in the list of updates to hide.
