Windows 10: Cannot boot into windows without going into BIOS first

If I turn the computer on or if I do a restart windows 10 fails to complete bootup and hangs with a blank screen after the windows logo and rotating dots come up. HOWEVER - if I go into the BIOS then select the disk it will boot into windows fine. It is the only drive connected to the system at the moment

I have tried a number of things and DISM run from command line tells me there is nothing wrong.


It is a fresh install of windows 10 after a complete crash I presume was caused by a faulty graphics card i swapped in to the system.

It did take me several attempts to install windows onto the disk - but it was a brand new SSD when i started.

Windows stuck in automatic repair; Can't access BIOS/ boot menu

I've changed the boot order through both BIOS and the boot manager, as my original post stated. Neither did anything, but both were functional in the past. Neither listed the windows boot manager, either. Previously, it would boot just as expected whenever
other media was set as the first option, so I'm pretty sure there are no issues there.

As my original post suggested, I've already tried out the steps you gave. I've gone through all the options listed in the boot menu, UEFI or not.

My BIOS and boot menu settings were at their defaults when all of this started, so that's been tried already, if those are what you're referring to.

 

MSI bios boot logo (frozen?)

If you have any USB device connected, disconnect for now.
Go into BIOS:

1. At boot time, the BIOS is checking for all devices attached to the PC, turn off the MSI boot logo under boot menu so you can see the text displayed of each step and note which device is hanging.
2. Under Advance->Windows 8/8.1/10: Enable MSI Fast Boot so that BIOS will bypass checking most devices that are none essential for booting. This will improve the boot process. Note that this is different from fast boot that you set in Windows.

Some third party drivers that you downloaded from the MSI website might not be up to date, try to download the latest driver(s) from the original manufacturers such Intel Chip Set, Network driver etc....
